Phil Lesh's New Ritter Bass

Hello bass players, I'm not one but been hanging around with them for 40 years or so.

Found this thread by seaching on Lesh's bass, which I heard him play last night in MD at Merriweather Post Pavillion.

heard Phil with the dead since 71 and also with the Q. That Ritter looks fine on Lesh...and it sounded fantastic. His rig is top shelf boutique, but I found the new bass to be...very Phil.

For the record I'm a big big fan of noodles.

saw some pix of phil jammin with the new ritter on wnew's site.

Sims from the UK does LED custom jobs. They've been doing that for years. Everyone from Billy Sheehan to Sam Rivers of Limp Bizkit has had this done. It's pretty expensive to send it from the US to them to have it done. I've tried before, it's rough! Pretty sick nonetheless!

Dear Phil - thank you for playing. Please continue to play whatever makes you happy.

I can't think of anyone who could pull that crazy Ritter off as well as Phil.

I heartily agree. I hadn't heard anything about his new toy when I saw PL&F last week for NYE. I thought it was some sort of alien Modulus, (or I'd been dosed....) It definitely has more of what I think of as "Phil" tone than the Modulii, which I always thought of as somewhat sterile. And I've owned one, so I think I know.

I still like the sound he got with that old Bi-Sonic equipped EB-0 that he used on American Beauty and live back in the day. Still, it was the Godfather that defined his sound, I think. But he made excellent use of the Ritter last week.

However, I personally don't think I could comfortably walk on stage with that thing hanging around my neck.
