When did Anthony Jackson start using a pick. When I saw live he was using fingers. We are talking about the guy that has the special Fodera single cut , correct?

When did Anthony Jackson start using a pick. When I saw live he was using fingers. We are talking about the guy that has the special Fodera single cut , correct?

For punk players: Joe Gittleman of the Bosstones, Paul Simonon, and Dee Dee Ramone.
I don't know if we can call them virtuosos.
I could never play down strokes for even 30 minutes @ 100 mph like Dee Dee did.
Bobby Vega and Mike Gordon are my favorite pick players but there are many other talented pickers.
Greg Lake, check out the middle section of 21st Century Schizoid Man. Also Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond of Jethro Tull.
I mean - really a complete player should be able to use any technique.

You really can't discuss bass of any sort without Carol Kaye who is exclusively a pick player.
I haven't seen Ian Martin Allison pop up yet. I've become a massive fan of his in the last year as one of the more innovative and complete players out there. IMA plays with both, but you see the pick more often.

Tom Fowler from the early to mid 70s Zappa group. His picking on One Size Fits All is pretty remarkable.
So obviously all musical titles are subjective. With that said I will offer the following suggested listening in support of my nominations for the pick bass virtuoso club:
Yeah, Dee Dee isn’t flashy, but his playing serves the song, defines the genre, and makes you want to jump up and down. A virtuoso of virtuoso rejection perhaps.

Rick Danko and Graham Maby are two good ones who often use(d) a pick.
Wetton used a pick when he was in U.K. U.K.’s “Night After Night” live album is one of my favorite live albums and showcases some brilliant bass lines.
I also dig Phil Lynott’s bass lines. He exclusively used a pick.
I love Sting’s bass work with the Police. He predominantly used a pick back then.

Well, except for everyone mentioned in this thread; No, there are no great pick players. 
Dee Murray and Dennis Dunaway also come to mind.

Not sure how many people even on Talkbass are familiar with (or remember) that band, but that entire album is a jewel. Cupid's Dead is a seriously tight track.
