Graham May with Joe Jackson played pick and fingers. Bruce Thomas with Elvis Costello didn't. Tina Weymouth with Talking Heads I think played both.

When did Anthony Jackson start using a pick. When I saw live he was using fingers. We are talking about the guy that has the special Fodera single cut , correct?

This is the same Anthony Jackson. Anthony has been a great pickstyle player since at least 1973, which was the date of release of “For the Love of Money”, which features the iconic picked intro.

He isn’t a pick player exclusively, but most of his amazing work with Chaka Khan and Quincy Jones was pickstyle, and wasn’t even on six string. He doesn’t use one with every artist you might see him for play with, but I’m used to seeing him do about 80% fingers and 20% pick with most acts, including Hiromi and Mike Stern. He’d use the pick most of the set with Al DiMeola.

And when I saw him with Hiromi he definitely switched it up - I was up pretty close and he'd hold the pick in this mouth while playing with his fingers.
