How about Roger Glover from Deep Purple
He was primarily a fingerstyle player most of his career although he did sometimes use a pick. I saw the original band in 1978 in Boston, he used his fingers as far as I can remember. he was a monster. He was a very hard finger plucker and I think he eventually had a lot of problems because of that but that is why he got such a great sound, near the end he could hardly even hold a pick and had to attach it to his fingers, he also used a thumbpick. They were one of the technically best bands I've ever seen. I did find a video from 1979 where he used a pick though but I don't remember his using one when I saw him.
This is not live but is from 1978, he had that same P bass when I saw them.

Not sure how many people even on Talkbass are familiar with (or remember) that band, but that entire album is a jewel. Cupid's Dead is a seriously tight track.Worth a listen.
I agree. The long suite that closes the album is epic. I think they had the bad luck to find themselves in the middle of the grunge wave.

I started with a pick only because I thought that was how a bass was played at the time. It wasn’t until later that I learned you could pluck with just your fingers. That was a blessing since I learned how to use both styles later on. And now I can easily switch back and forth.

BobbyVega has the unique style of using the broad end of the plectrum instead of using the pointed end. It works for him and can work for you if you work at it. He can play very funky if that’s an incentive for you.

Finger virtuoso goes to Billy Shehann who trained himself to use four right hand fingers to play extremely fast and efficiently. He also offers training on that particular technique. Beat that!
