I'm sure he's been named by somebody already, but Phil Lesh is my #1 pick hero.
Since my early pick-slinging punk days had passed, I've always been a fingerstyle player, but the more I got into 70's live Grateful Dead stuff in the last decade, the more interested I became in using a pick for the specific tones and attack you can get with one. I still only use one about 10% of the time, but there are a lot of reasons to do so other than just hammering root notes super fast (even though I would consider that too to be a legitimate way to play bass)

I think Roger Glover plays with a pick pretty much exclusively, and has done so for decades...I don't know that anyone considers him a virtuoso, but he is one of the great heavy rock bassists in my opinion.

He went back and forth at one point, particularly in his time with Rainbow, but I’d say you’re right.

So obviously all musical titles are subjective. With that said I will offer the following suggested listening in support of my nominations for the pick bass virtuoso club:

If you're going to use that video to support Paul Simonon, you need to pick another. The bass (as well as piano and drums) on that song was played by Topper Headon. Honestly, when it comes to the Clash, it's hard to know who played bass as Mick Jones also reportedly played bass on many songs.

Yep, Right up til 1973. He exited the band prior to the recording of their debut album, 1973’s Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd, which made way for Leon Wilkeson to join as bassist.
