The Camaro in my signature makes 700 horses and is street legal. Is it overkill for the street?? You bet. But, at the same time all the power is made down low..... this thing is all done by 6,500 rpm, which is perfect for a street car.

I bought an 86 Mustang that had been modded with the 2.3L I4 and a big turbocharger with boost set to 26 psi.
It was a horrible dog below 4,000 RPM but then the boost kicked in like a rocket up to redline @6800 RPM where it made over 320 ponies.
It was fun for about a week. Then it sucked. It would have been perfect for autocross but it was just wretched as a daily driver or even a weekend pleasure driver.
Street cars just need to have lots of torque down low.
4.10 gears with a 31" tall tire.
I could probably pick up a little time in the 1/4 mile with 4.56 or 4.88 gears, but streetability would suffer.
We used a 4.56 IIRC w/ small block in the Chevelle , was pretty good for 1/8 mile , 1/4 mile not so much.
I did some errands in OH yesterday. No less than 5 new(er) Corvettes passed me at different times. When you buy one, I'm pretty sure that they make you sign a document vowing to never use your turn signal.
I spotted a few cool American cars yesterday. A newer Cobra, 73 Challenger, a very healthy sounding 63 Chevy truck wearing red primer and a 68(9?) Camaro in someone's front yard on my street. Not 100% on the year, but it had those horizontal lines over the headlights.
I guess it was a good day for cruising.

After doing yard work and painting, I decided to take my Firebird to the local car cruise yesterday. There were lots of very cool old and newer cars there to check out.
I remember the VW Corrado VR6, many years back a stand-in drummer showed up for the gig in one. We had a chat about it, it was a nicely kept, very clean. That very night in the AM, we had a heavy storm. He awoke in the morning and the first thing he noticed out of his window was some bystanders looking on, then he saw the huge tree that had blown down straight on top of the car. That was that, it was written off.
Small blocks like the RPM's a little more that most big blocks do.
What sort of times were you running with the Chevelle?
high 12's in the quarter. Was nothing fancy, .030 overbore, pretty basic package. Just a weekend bracket bomber.
High 12's is respectable. My 79 Z/28 runs 12.70's on pump gas, thru the mufflers on rock hard street radials. Fun car and I can cruise it pretty much anywhere.

Im sure I have some somewhere but that was almost 30 years ago and we still used print film, would have to scan somehow.

My brother had a 79 Mustang Indy pace car replica. I borrowed it to take a girl on a first date. A falling tree crushed the car a few months after that. The girl eventually became my wife.

Last friday I was standing in line in front of the traffic lights in the city centre when I noticed an oldtimer at the side at the road. The couple in it were obviously trying to get it running again. It was an old rally car with a statue on the radiator. Not a Rolls or a Bentley. Figured it must have been a Hispano Suiza.
A bit like this one, but grey. The driver was a local television host / journalist.
Pablo Picasso had 1953 Hispano-Suiza that he used to illuminate his paintings at night, since there was no electric light in his studio there.
Searching for an image of it, I came across the Mercedes-Benz 220 SE b (Serie W 111).
Which made me realize that it wasn't a W114 in my previous post.
This is possibly the exact same car that brought us to Berlin, at least it has a Swiss (CH) sticker at the back on the exact same spot. Color and model are matching.
