Lifted trucks seem to be on the comeback lately. Don't know what took so long, I've been driving one since the late 80's.

I tend to be a Mopar fan but this car is right at the top of my list:- Ford Thunderbolt.
The Thunderbolt was made strictly for racing but in order to meet the rules at that time they had to offer a public 'street' version.

Yes. I don't know why that pic says 406.( I was in a bit of a hurry this morning and wasn't paying attention).

Maybe I should have used a different pic.

The car in the photo is an early 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 with the optional 406 cubic inch engine. Although some were drag raced, this combination was really about NASCAR. In fact, half way through the model year they changed the roof line to a more fastback style. That roofline carried into 1964 unchanged. This was a full sized body.

The Thunderbolt was based on the mid-sized Fairlane, and only made for one year, 1964. It did have a 427 stuffed in it and one hundred were built in order for it to be NHRA legal. Eleven were burgundy and 89 were white.

The Galaxie in your photo has air intakes where the inboard headlights are normally, similar to the Thunderbolt. At first glance I could see the confusion.

I'd have posted a Thunderbolt photo, but my photobucket is acting up for some reason.

My late FIL had one of these in his garage. He never drove it. He inherited it from his mother.

It was basically a Valiant with a fastback. In fact, it shows the Valiant badge on the back in this ad. I thought it one of the ugliest cars ever.

I had one of these completely sideways going through an S turn years ago, scared the crap out of me because I didn't own it. What a fun car to drive though, very responsive. I managed to keep the shiny side up thank goodness

There's a guy a few blocks away who has one that's been sitting dead in his driveway for the past 10 years. It has a Chevy 350 with all the shiny goodies. He can't work on it due to poor health and he refuses to sell it so it just sits there and rots.
