My '76 AMC Gremlin will always have a special spot in my heart.
an acquaintance of mine pulled up in this today im in the uk so dont see many of these its a mustang mach 1 the guy that owns it has many american cars from the early 70s
Speaking of Mustangs. In the early eighties, the Utah Highway Patrol (CHP also, iirc) ran a pretty significant amount of these:

1984 Toyota Van. That's right -- it's called The Van. Bought one with 250K miles on it, 4-speed manual, and it ran like a champ. Mine was this color, but didn't have the fancy aluminum wheels. You sat on the engine, and had to raise the drivers seat to get at it. The battery was behind the drivers seat and was accessed through the floor. I later sold it to a guy who rolled it to 300K miles. It had no A/C the entire time I had it, but I dealt with it. (In Oklahoma that's tough sometimes.) Oh, and it sat seven with a third-row seat, and still had cargo space in the back.
The Riviera had styling well ahead of it's time but the Olds Toronado had styling and front wheel drive, unlike its E body mates, the Riviera and the Eldorado.
I always liked the Oldsmobile Toronado too. When I was a kid, I remember looking inside a Toronado and wondering why there was not a drive shaft hump inside the car until I was told it was front wheel drive.
