The 1964 Ferrari was chosen for it's beauty, it's not a practical car to drive in.
(Anyway, even if I had the money to buy one, I probably wouldn't)
If had to pick a birthday year car to drive in daily traffic, it would be a Citroën DS.

Or more practical, a Citroën ID 19 break familiale.

I'm not fond of 3 wheelers, trikes or bikes with sidecar.

I agree that the Citroens are indeed iconic. I've laid hands on one, never driven it, but they're pretty well fixed in the memories of those who were driving in the 60's.

it was made in canley coventry england the car started out as a small family car the triumph herald

so they made a sports model the vitesse 1.6 cc and 2.0 litre six cylinder engines. soft top or hard top

they also did the same with the spitfire

put the 6cyl engine in it and a hard top the gt6

all these 4 cars are the same underneath apart from the body's and engines

Didn't know about the Vitesse, really beautiful!! Brings to mind the TR6 and the Sunbeam V8 Tiger. Small bodies, big sounds, this is intriguing.

Yeah, same car, but Mom's was red. I always heard them called "Bug-eyed" Sprites, but.. "frog-eyed" works, too. The photo's not real great - well, it is for a 52 year old polaroid - but, this is that very car. And that's me behind the wheel, after successfully passing my UK driver's test. Dad was stationed at RAF Mildenhall at the time, and we were living at RAF Feltwell, which was about 10 miles away. Mom was not happy to leave her little red bomb behind, when we got shipped back to the States...

It's still RWD, right? I can't imagine Chevy flipped the drivetrain 180º so that it becomes a FWD vehicle. That would just be plain weird.

This reminds me of when Cooper (IIRC) first brought their brand spanking new mid engine race car out. Enzo said, " " Then he said, "You don't put the cart before the horse!" It wasn't too long after that when Ferrari had their first mid engine car on track.

Not only in the 60's, there are still people that drive them today here.
Quite a few import them from (Southern) France, where the climate has kept them in better shape.
There's a sort of cult following. Until the mid 90's the prices were more or less affordable, if you were willing to do some work. Until recently there was a Citroën specialist just behind where I live that mostly did DS's, the suspension needs someone like that.

If you're restoring one with a broken engine, it might be fun to go looking for a CX 25 Turbo engine and fit that in. I've also read about someone who's going to put a Chevrolet Corvair 6 cylinder boxer in his restoration, because the original design was with 6 cylinder boxer (that wasn't finished on time). A few test-DS's were fitted with a V6 Maserati engine to test the set up for the Citroën SM.
