Pickguard color for a black P bass

OK ........recently got a Maple neck black P bass-with a white pick guard and I’m not really fond of that combination. I am leaning towards replacing it with a red tort but also thinking about a cream color to match the maple neck or a black one. Wondering what you all think

But to me maple fret boards look best with black guards as a general rule.

I have to agree with this. Other options would be gold anodized or parchment. Black is usually the winner in my opinion.

Original black pickguard. Other guard is Parchment. I switch them around periodically.

Black on black just doesn't do it for me.
Same with white pg on a white bass.

But if you have to do black, make it black/red/black or black pearl.

Me too!

I resisted the urge to do it to the fretless jazz as well. The wife and both daughters said an emphatic NO! But they all like the red on three Franken P.

It's just a blk/wht/blk three ply which I took to with a red sharpie....... known as the @Malak the Mad sharpie mod. At a recent gig my daughter was playing it and even the wife commented on how much the red caught the lights...... looked really cool!

Not sure how it would look with a maple neck.
