Pig in a poke???

what % of tb'ers are buying amps/cabs without ever auditioning/listening/touching/seeing/smelling/tasting (you get the idea) before purchasing???

with the P*** poor music stores in my area, it appears i may be one who buys 'in the dark'. i'm just curious what % of tb'ers do YOU thing are doing the same???

I'm in a similar situation, living 200 miles from either the San Francisco Bay Area or the Los Angeles area. Even the nearest Guitar Center is two hours away.

I've made decisions by carefully reading TB threads, and by listening to clips posted by people here.

Even if I like a tone I hear on a record I never assume it was done using the player's live rig, because what happens in the studio is often nothing like what you'd hear in a live situation. The bass could be recorded via DI, a combo of DI and amp, and probably not the same type of amp used live. Then you have to consider signal processing applied during the tracking and mixing phases of the record.
