Perhaps. Maybe the O.P. should have before he personally attacked a member of the forum for offering a different view. I think the reply showed amazing restraint and maturity in the face of that. Would that all of us should show that much grace.

If you really want to hear Pino doing something different...check out what he does on "The Only Living Boy in New York" live with Simon and Garfunkel. It's on YouTube.
Some great shots of him playing a very tasty and appropriate bass line to a slow song.

Anyone on this thread who presumes to know what Pino cannot play need to get out more. Some of their ill-informed comments are laughable.

Well yes - but he was attacked before that for his vernacular in the original post. Perhaps he should have named the post "In Praise of Pino" or something. Then there wouldn't have been something for the detractors to latch on to.

But oh well. Such is the land of Talkbass forums. LOL

Well, everything I have EVER heard him play is pure groove. Like many--I have heard hundreds of his recordings and haven't found jack sh*t that he was lame on.

I like that he crosses genres easily. Like Simon Phillips on drums.

That is a great comparison. I think those two are related anyway but one got all the height in the family.

Yeah, they do look similar, don't they?
I recently saw Simon touring with Hirome in LA - good lord he is great, and appears to be a genuinely nice cat (walked through the crowd, saying hi to folks before the gig).

The only thing I've ever heard Simon play that I really didn't care for was when he did The Who gig in 1989. It was just a bit TOO groovy.
Love his work with Pete Townshend though!! Give Blood, Second Hand Love, etc... Fantastic stuff.

Yeah, no one really could replace Keith Moon.
I first saw Simon in 1980 with Jeff Beck - I was sitting front row center at the SDSU open air ampitheater. Simon was probably all of 20 years old - and he has just gotten better.
