Honestly A,B&D sounded so good that if I played in a band that down tuned for a couple of songs, I would opt for one these in a second over bringing a second bass or tuning down in between songs. The band I play with during the winter (ski season) plays everything tuned 1 half-step down because it works better with the singers voice. Other than that none of the bands I play with experiment at all with tunings. This test makes me wish we did!

I can't wait to see the results.

I voted D, but B was a close second for me. C was the worst, for sure. I think I judged mostly from the slap and lowest sections (which is weird because my own playing is more like the first 3 sections, but then again I don't really feel a need for a pitch-shifting pedal anyway). Definitely a useful resource. Interested to see the results.

I agree C was the worst. I listened to it again. I honestly think B and D are tied. I voted for B on my first run through. D is definitely just as good though. I think once I find out it will come down to aesthetics and features that would make me pick between the two.

A & B sounded good to me, C totally unnatural and compressed, D sounded almost identical to A to me. Just the volume may have been different?

At 7 half steps down, they all started getting less natural, but C still was my least favorite.

B seemed to have a punchier tone maybe that I liked. I could probably use A or D too though.

I think I'm an A with a close second on D... As long as the M5 wasn't C (which was only noticeable worse on parts lower than I ever really play anyway) then I may just stick to that for my pitch needs because it can be had for ~$8-$90 used and comes with a lot more than pitch shifting. Just my two cents.

My opinion from best to worse is D>B>A>C.
D, B, and A are all very usable, but D has the most clarity in the lowest notes.
C is completely unusable. I'm guessing C is the Line 6.

EDIT:
A is doing something to tone that's not sitting well with me. I can't quite put my finger on what it's doing though. I think it's something in the lows or low mids.

You know - for ***** and giggles I listened again and I wonder if there isn't a small volume boost in D that makes me pick it. And I really like B but I find the buzz annoying.

The wait is killing me. When are you going to tell us Adam?!?!?!

I set the poll to close tomorrow, and I'll post them then. I will also reveal by PM to anyone who promises not to post the results.

I am also trying to see if I can get some guitar clips uploaded tonight, but I will do so in such a way as to not influence the existing votes.

He's too busy dumping all his stock in the company that manufactures "C" :)

As the owner of an Eventide Pitchfactor, I'm anxious to see the outcome of this. Playing live, it always did a spectacular job (Pitchflex); as I tuned my entire 4-string 1/2-step down, but I played my 5er anywhere from 1.5 steps down to 2.5 steps above standard tuning. When you get down to recording quality level, using headphones, etc., the slightest compromise in sound quality is a big deal. I have found that there is a "shimmer" to the tone with some of them, which makes it sound synthesized.

I voted D, C was the standout worst for me in 1 4 and 7. the others sounded pretty good. A B and D all sounded good at 1 down, at 4 and 7 B sounded a bit better to me particularly the tracking of the low notes at 7. Though I don't think I would ever do that without a long trip to the bathroom beforehand.

So I doubt I'm going to upload guitar clips the way I had hoped, but I did play through guitar a lot last night with a similar methodology---I would record a clip into my Infinity and then let it play while I stomped simultaneously on two pedals to do an instantaneous A/B of all the difference combinations. I used compression again, but at much milder settings than for bass (for bass I was using it as more of a limiter at 10:1, on guitar I use a 2:1 ratio just for some evening out). Again, I'm not sure how much the difference in chain is affecting the results. On the other hand, I feel it's fair to do it this way because the Drop and Droptune instructions specifically state they should be early in the chain, while the Pitchfactor specifically states it should be late in the chain. The M5 has no such recommendation, but given that I use it primarily for delay and reverb, I put it toward the end and for my own personal use that's where I should make the comparison.

To be honest, it was pretty maddening as I strained to hear the differences. Differences did exist, but they were subtle, and they are hard to characterize. I played both through dirt and clean. At the risk of influencing the last few hours of votes, here are some thoughts:

(1) All tracked pretty much equally well. I think that the trouble C has tracking the lower notes in the bass examples are not an issue for guitar.

(2) I didn't notice any significant issues with polyphony. I tried a lot of open chords and various major and minor 3rd combinations. I didn't try any super weird chords, although I did lay down a chord progression and play some lead lines over that, and I didn't notice anything. It's possible that on some of the major 3rds I was hearing the slightest warble in A, B, and D, actually, and not C...but this is where I wish I would have recorded. Any warble was slight, though.

(3) C has the most different tone and responsiveness. It is almost scooped and compressed on its own. If looking to perfectly replicate your clean tone, this is obviously the worst option. However, in a vacuum I did not think that particular tone profile sounded bad, just different.

(4) Of A, B, and D, I think D has the most top end and B has the least.

(5) Of A, B, and D, I think A has the most mids.

(6) Of A, B, and D, I think B might have a slight low-end bump.

(7) Dirt really neutralizes a great deal of the differences, even with C. It might make the two "late chain" pedals a little muddier than the "early chain" pedals, but it's hard to say.

I am going to take a stab at a guess:

Digitech Drop - B
Morpheus Droptune - A
Eventide Pitchfactor (Pitchflex algorithm) - D
Line6 M6 (Pitch Glide effect) - C

@Mosfed you are correct about more than zero and fewer than all four. Results revealed this afternoon (United States CDT). And my offer to reveal by PM stands if you absolutely can't wait!

(8) I forgot to add that on guitar I may have noticed a hint of latency with D. Not sure.

In that case, I will switch my predictions of A&B -

Digitech Drop - A
Morpheus - B
Line 6 - C
Eventide - D

I wasn't too sure about those two anyway! I chose the Digitech as B originally as I always seem to have some minor buzz issues with Digitech stuff (I am 100% sure it has more to do with my crappy electricity than the quality of their products).

One thing for sure, if the Line 6 is any other one than C, I will have to consider their gear much more than I ever have.

It could be the Morpheus. I have heard consistently negative reviews of it from multiple sources on TB.
