Wowzers! Yeah, that grain is pretty damn sweet! droolI know some people don't like the striped wood (non-rosewood) fb's (including ebony) but I do and yours looks great with that finish & pg.
It reminds me of an article about how a particular manufacturer…I wanna say it was Paul Reed Smith, but I'm not 100% sure…was going to make it a point to start utilizing more of the wood from each, individual African ebony tree, stripes and all. Personally, if that means more responsible use of finite resources, but stripier ebony fretboards (i.e.: much more natural character in each instrument), I call that a win/win.

I totally agree - many striped ebony fb's were/are dyed to look uniformly dark, conforming to a stereotype perception/expectation of "ebony". To move beyond this it simply requires the acceptance that all wood is organic and is beautiful in it's natural state, in whatever portion of the tree it's milled from. Perfection is not about being homogenous and is up to ones personal perception/concept of perfection.

I know you are a creative person MtM so I suspect you will agree with me when I say perfection is in the eyes of the beholder and should never be used as aesthetic leverage to claim superiority of 'taste' or tyranny of servitude. (as in, employer to worker - "it's not perfect! do it again!") As an artist I strive to understand perfection in it's purest form - which might look like this weathered piece of plywood I found on the side of the road years ago. (hanging on my wall, appreciated for it's perfection)
I have been toying with the idea of getting one of these. They seen quite cool.
Maybe I should start a new thread: "Talk me into a new Fender Mustang P/J!"

No one needs to talk you into it. Check out the posts here, on the Mustang Club and the Short Scale Club. Then watch for the $399.99 sales that sometimes appear on Adorama.com and on the used market. The retail price is not bad either. Musicians Friend often offers discounts. You may have to do some upgrades but, dollar for dollar, they are a short scale dream, IMHO.

I acquired this Sea Foam Pearl, Fender Special Edition Deluxe PJ Bass.
Just wondering, I tried out one of those P/J specials in a Guitar Center and it sounded fantastic. I was however surprised by the weight of it. How is yours weight wise?
Was the one you sampled too heavy or surprisingly light? If it was too heavy, I'm sure a lighter bridge and a set of Hipshot Ultralites would shave off almost half a pound, if not more.

It was quite heavy. Maybe I’m just getting old ha ha. The last one I picked up (several years ago) before that was the navy blue one with the gold pg. Don’t remember it being so weighty. The other side of the spectrum is the Aerodyne Jazz, which I found to be a super light J/P setup. J/P, P/J... what’s the world coming to? ;-D

When I was first considering buying my first bass, that P-Bass Special model was on my short-list. But instead, I found a great deal on an Aerodyne…yay, Aerodynes!

)I'm sure I've mentioned it earlier in the thread, but if one is looking for a great P/J Jazz, but doesn't want a 'Dyne (…the heathens!
) I've often recommended Fender's Reggie Hamilton Jazz. In my humble opinion, the pickup placement is perfect. In fact, if I ever hear about someone thinking of re-routing a J/J into a P/J, I always suggest using an RH pickguard as the positioning template.
I love me some P/J's but should I join a club that would have ME as a member? lol
I have the sunburst version of the Precision Deluxe Special Edition, and it's the lightest bass I own. Not sure on the weight but certainly under 9 lbs. I tried a sea foam green one at the same time I got my sunburst one, and it was around the same weight.
I don't know. I haven't had a chance to weigh it yet. I'll do that tomorrow and post it to you.
