Simple/passive would follow a basic 2 pu wiring (like a J) but I know there's a lot of debate about getting the P to maintain it's P-ness with another pu wired in. Should be a thread on it I would think.
Interesting in the P/J demo (above, post#1455) w/Tonestyler that one setting nailed the Jaco J sound. Just goes to show a well sorted bass in the right hands can sound any way you want regardless of the type of bass it is. Makes me wonder if Jaco would have liked the P/J configuration as that flavor was just starting to arrive as he departed.

Thought I'd mention here, I have two cool PJ related things for sale.
I thought someone in this group would be interested in this like new set of Nordstrand Blade PJ pickups that I bought for the bass below, but took right back out because of other unplanned purchases. Never so much had a guitar pick scrape against them. Perfectly mint. Killer upgrade on just about any PJ bass!

Also, I have a Jericho Alpha Black 35" scale 4 string bass. The bass is mint (set up in BEAD). I bought a few more things than planned, so this new purchase needs to move.

Dean Hillsboro PJ passive 2013
Picked it up last Friday during my lunch hour:
Haven't seen many (any) of these.
Sounds and plays awesome.
This would be my 3rd PJ style bass.
What is really awesome about this bass is that although it is 34" scale, the 22nd fret of the neck ends about where your knee is when playing in the sitting position so that the reach to the 1st position feels like you're playing a short scale even though you're not. I have no idea if all of the Hillsboro's are like this when playing in the sitting position.

Its an amazing bass, got it for such a low price as well. Loving it, looks great plays better
Recently got my first PJ after playing forever... I like it quite a bit. Lots of interesting sonic colors available...

I know some people don't like the striped wood (non-rosewood) fb's (including ebony) but I do and yours looks great with that finish & pg.
