I'm not a fan of bursts, but I forgot how gorgeous the jazz one was. Especially with the clear pg.
On a side note, I'm really surprised they haven't brought back the precision aerodyne. The blue color was absolutely stunning! One of the nicest basses I've ever played in terms of feel. I hope they resissue, they're like hens teeth.
That was the "Koa Aerodyne", one of the last limited edition 'Dynes released by Fender-Japan before the joint-venture was dissolved in 2015 and FMIC took over control of the Japan's Fender/Squier market. Somehow FMIC acquired the rights to the Aerodyne design (I wonder how much that cost them!
) and has kept up production of the Export and Non-Export editions, but hasn't released any special/limited editions like the aforementioned Precision Aerodyne, the J/J configured DiMarzio version, the medium-scale 'Dynes or the even rarer Aerodyne Jazz V.Apparently, they're playing it safe and sticking to the "core concept" designs. I think it's fair to say FMIC's R&D department is either being held back by the higher-ups when it comes to producing bolder, wilder designs* or they simply lack Fender-Japan's "cool factor" for creating really slick and interesting instruments. (re: the Boxer Series, for example

Makes sense to me as well. I think what would be possibly their biggest reservation about doing the precision again is if it outsold any other PJ. IMO it was by far their best PJ to date.

Ha ha I guess I need to get out more. Those are some sweet bass pics. Japanese Dynes... That’s something you don’t see every day, at least in the US.
Yeah, aside from the usual, black Export Editions, the Non-Exports I see the ones I usually see domestically are the black Deluxe Aerodynes.
Virtually identical, save for the flush-mounted output jack. In fact, just last year, I bought one from a guy just half-an-hour from my home with the intent to harvest the neck (my absolute favorite neck design!
) for a parts-bass projekt o' mine.
When I was first considering buying my first bass, that P-Bass Special model was on my short-list. But instead, I found a great deal on an Aerodyne…yay, Aerodynes!(…but then, I am biased
Yep, the Aerodyne is a mighty fine bass and it comes in any color you want as long as it’s black. ;-D
I just recently picked up a used Non-Export Aerodyne....wasn't expensive at all and it's NOT Black
I still don't like the radius...but I'm dealing...for the moment
It's 7.25", which is standard for many Japanese-made Fenders and almost every Aerodyne variant.
meh... I prefer 9.5" and 10" so this is taking some getting used to
I bought a Maple MIM neck in the classifieds that needed some TLC, so I sent it to my friend Jeff (who made 4 of my basses) for rescue, and I asked him to also make a modern 50's P body. He had a nice blank of Poplar and made it after discussing pickups and placement. I decided on Nordstrand BigRigs in 60's PJ location, with a Sadowsky 3 knob preamp. The look was heavily influenced by Tom Hamilton's Sadowsky - except different pickups in different positions, and, I feel, a better design on the custom faux-carbon fiber pickguard. The pickguard design alone took a lot of back and forth discussions and sketches. The Butterscotch paint was done by a friend of Jeff's, and I did the shielding, electronics and final assembly.

@R&B has caused me to get G.A.S. with his '57 AVRI in translucent white with gold PG and Maple FB.
I asked him in a PM whether he thinks this is legitimate, but my G.A.S. is so bad that I am also posting this here at the risk of someone buying it out from under me!
