Played a Sadowsky Metro Today

I didn't mean for my Skyline statement to be taken maybe the wrong way. The Skyline is a great bass. Very close to the USA line. And unbeatable for the price. Almost seems like they should cost even more. It's just not exactly the same as the as the USA line. The Metro and NYC basses are virtually the same exact bass. Except it won't have all the options of the NYC basses.

No offense taken here! :) Just pointing out a few facts as to how kick-ass the Skyline series really is. Just FMI, is the Metro series made in NYC? If not, it's basically what the Skyline is to the USA models. Virtually same specs, same USA setup, etc.. Except it says "Sadowsky" on the headstock, and well, that's where the price wars come in! :D I like the Laklands because it's not a straight-up J-bass. The J/MM combination rocks so hard. I'm surprised not many people tried it out before they had.

The Metro Series is made in Japan in the same manor the NYC basses are. They are not mass produced like the Skyline Series in Korea.

I've owned 2 SkyLines & 1 USA Lakland & IMO, the difference in overall workmanship was definitely in favor of the USA Lakland I owned. The Skylines are nice basses, thou.

Yohsi Kikuchi sold Atelier Z to work under Roger in NYC for a year to learn how Roger's operation works. He now heads the Sadowsky Tokyo Shop in Japan.

Well for the extra cash, I'd hope the USA's would be favored. But for the more budget conscious, I still hold firm that the -02 series of the Skylines are hard to beat. How much do the Sadowsky Metro's run, anyhow?

Anywhere form $1795.00 to $2300.00 depending on the model.
Just to clarify: I spoke to Roger and these are NOT to be considered cheap offshore copies of the NYC basses. They are going to be sort of his "stock" instruments. No options/changes. If you want a "custom" bass it will be made here in his shop. That's going to be about the only difference. I'm sure he decided on Japan and not Korea or China because of the better quailty of the work there. They're more expensive there but you get what you pay for.

I dont think the country in which the basses are made is importent beacuse you are still getting a hand assembled instrument.

I have played the skyline basses and Sadowsky Tokyo really is in another league when it comes quality, in my hands their wasent any comparison. But i am glad you have found the bass that does the trick for you, diffrent strokes for diffrent folks. :)

If my 55-02 Standard (natural/maple) isn't one of the damn finest instruments I've ever played, I don't know what is. Every Skyline is assembled in the US of A, and goes through all the same specs and setup that the -94's do.

USA Laklands have hand-finished (oil?), quartersawn rock maple necks with graphite reinforcement rods. The Skyline series has flatsawn maple necks with a satin polyester finish and no graphite. Several months ago the head of Lakland's factory told me neck construction and finishing account for most of the price discrepancy between the USA and Skyline series.

Also, USA bodies are finished in nitrocellulose laquer vs. polyester on the Skylines.
