hell yeah, Altered Beast is crazy hard. Fffuuu, I sucked hard at just about any Mega Man game as well.
I loaded up Shining in the Darkness on my xbmc emulator recently and was taken back to what I remember was over 1000 hours finishing that game.
Now we get ecstatic when games like Tomb Raider give us 30+ hours of gameplay.

Is it hard to setup? I'm trying to do the whole "media center" deal myself....
Well, not everyone. There are a lot of hard core Xbox fans still out there, but even a good percentage of those are ready to jump ship, if these online gaming polls are any indication. MS is going to be losing a lot of loyal Xbox fans to SONY this time out.
Hard to set up? No.
Tweak how you want? Well, I changed my theme/skin for the first year or so but I've stuck with one for a while now.
It's getting the mappings on emulators and stuff to work with current controllers to work properly. It's not seamless but it does work fine.
Essentially, xbmc is a media center that can open emulators that are already set up on your system. So if you know how to set up an emulator then you can program xbmc to just open it within Linux/windows/MacOS and go. I've got mine hooked up with wireless Xbox controllers and color coded to what system they go to black controllers go to xbmc and white go to the Xbox.
I need to up my hard drive space since 4TB seems to not be enough for me.
If and when I get around to buying a Next Gen console, yes, it'll likely be a PS4.
Though, thats likely 2 or 3, maybe more, years from now.
I'm waiting for the PS4 to come out so I can finally get a PS3 and play MGS4.
I play MGS4 at my friends house back when the PS3 was still pretty new.
I just bought my PS3 last year and use it almost daily, if not to play games then for Netflix.

So now it's down to just being the lesser console with the higher price tag

You are right though...its far from over. Sony also has by far the better hardware for gaming.
Nothing I've seen has made any mention about the kinect monitoring, which is another issue.
They'd do themselves a favour if they did away with that. Heck, that way they could also sell units without the kinect and meet a pricepoint similar to the PS4.
