Yea but if you look at the time that usually counts (3-5 years) where it's still fresh, what is that? I mean.....wii went six but the last two or three were LONG.
360 took a little time to optimize I hear.
PS3....haven't heard a ton about any of their game specifically.
In console years, the length should almost be halved because by the time it gets quality software, ppl have already determined the limits. If you really wanted, you could keep upgrading the PC. Consoles may as well be in an arcade considering just how every model changes.
No worries Ziltoid. I've done that too.
I don't believe the 360 took time to optimize. It was all Direct X and the hardware wasn't anything the PC wasn't using at the time anyway.
It may have taken /some/ developers some time to optimize that weren't programming 360 games or were focused on PS2 games at the time and moved into 360 development. But that's just learning curves with any new platform development.
I had heard the exact same thing for PS3. That it was a nightmare to program for initially.
The more I see on this next generation, the more I want to move away from MS.
I have multiple 360s in the house. I bought one of the broken ones years ago to try to find a way to "fix" the red rings. I determined that you can't fix bad design decisions. The substrate layers in the PCB were so flimsy that when it heated up, it flexed the printed layers and caused disconnects. This is why the towel trick worked. You were heating it back up and "resoldering" the disconnects.
But even that was likely a temporary fix due to it heating up again at some point and disconnecting.
At least I had fun designing a new cooling system for mine with a new copper heatsink and air ducting and some really fine thermal paste. But even this didn't alleviate the substrate problems. (I'm not kidding, I could flex the PCB at least a full inch (maybe 2 if memory serves). That's really bad.
Anyway, I digress. The point is that MS makes some really bad decisions. Will they spend $3-6 Billion this time to try to pull themselves out of their boneheaded misteps?
I'm not down for nearly every aspect of their decisions.
° No XBLA
° No realistic trading/reselling (Yes, I've seen thier overly simplistic recap.)
° Daily checkins for playability
° Always on Kinect
I can't overlook their daily checkins. I might can overlook each of the others individually but taken as a whole, there's no way.
The more I look at PS4 the more I want to swing that way.
I saw something in a feed that suggested that PS3 games inserted into a PS4 would be recognized and download the PS3 game from PSN or something.
Does anyone know if that's true?
