Patiently Waiting For The Next British Invasion
Another thing that has been skipped over a bit is that Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA) is going away, locking out thousands of indie developers. Another example of M$ shooting themselves in the foot.
If you're an aspiring developer, it was easy for you to get the Xbox SDK and copy of Visual Studio and start programming. Using Microsoft's tools (.NET, DirectX, etc) you were also learning skills that would translate to their other platforms (Windows and WinPhone). Now, with the demise of XBLA, if an indie developer wants to get started coding games and wants to make a bit of money, where are they going to go?
Only one choice really - Apple.
iOS games can be very lucrative (more so than XBLA was, and far more so than Android). Microsoft are pushing developers into the open arms of their competitors. The legendary game developer Jeff Minter of Llamasoft (over 30 years in the biz, did the music visualisation code for both previous Xboxes, and prolific user of XBLA) has given up on Microsoft. He's already moved mostly to iOS and will also be doing stuff for the PS4.
Well said and typical Microsoft if Apple hadn't been so stubborn earlier Microsoft wouldn't exist now they continue to shoot themselves in the foot I love how they watched Google just destroy their search engine the XBOX has been the best thing they have done in many years and now they want to screw that up.
