Please educate me on fretless side markers...

Mr. Franklin finds them a distraction and can also alter your playing position if you have to bend over to watch your fingers.

you don’t have to bend over to see the fretlines. And also most lined basses have the fretlines run over the side as well.

But the discussion gets a bit boring and repetitive. Whatever works for you and gets you play in tune. Better in tune with fretlines than out of tune without lines.

You talked about the visual schema assisting in the transition from fretted to fretless. My point was that the marker scheme is irrelevant if you aren't familiar with it in the first instance.

No I was responding to a remark from another post about side dots on lined fretless and a possible reason why they are placed between the lines on most lined basses. In that sense having the dots between the lines is the same visual setup as fretted as opposed to having the dots on the lines on lined fretless.

But it doesn't really matter. It's all good to me. Whatever works for you or anybody else. Each has it's own preference. There is no wrong or right. Whatever makes you play in tune...just a bit tired of the same old lined vs unlined discussion that you see here every week. It doesn't really lead to anything.
