Well, I do think it fosters communication if folks disambiguate the first time one is flung out in a given post, and then they can feel free to shorthand for the rest of the post. Otherwise the multitude that mean something else somewhere else may get misinterpreted. The... Williamstown Theater Festival ...runs near me in the summers, for example...

FWIW, acronyms just create more confusion IMO. Even the smartest people that are a part of a specific industry cannot keep up with them. FYI, the time it takes to explain what an acronym means consistently far exceeds the supposed time benefit of using them. TBH, they only reduce efficiency. No need to LOL at this thread, plus IDC because its my POV.

It's the people who make up their own that are the most annoying. Someone on TalkBass was challenged in a previous thread to explain what his opaque abbreviation meant. Turned out to be the first letters of two consecutive syllables of a word that he had misspelled in his head.
