LOL, first there are actually vocals if you listen to more than 5 seconds of the track.
Second, "ridiculousness of modern metal", have you heard of Animals as Leaders? Seventh Wonder? TesseracT? Other than ridiculous talent I fail to see what is ridiculous. Other than this thread.

What vocals? I listened to the whole song a second time and there are none.....

So recently I stumbled upon this band that literally stole the name and logo of the amp brand Sunn for use by the band. Not only this but I listened to 3 of there songs from different albums and ALL of them are just a 5 or so second track looped for 7 - 12 minutes, with NO drums, NO vocals, and just some random effects every once in a while. On top of that they are toned so low and boost the bass so much I can't even tell if they have a bass. It could just be a couple of guitars (or basses I guess) and a synth. Please tell me this is some sort of joke and not a serious band. Or at least are they parodizing the degree of ridiculousness that is modern metal? Here is one of their "songs" if you have 7 + minutes of your life to waste:

Pretty bad music.

Clearly a trademark violation ... except Sunn no longer is a company so does anyone own and enforce that trademark.

...

They are the day modern equivalent to Béla Bartók

This isn't really the kind of music I'm interested in playing, or even listening to often, but I gotta say that I would definitely go to see this with friends, because this is awesome. In a way, it's a culmination of where metal was going when I was growing up in the 80s. Sooner or later, somebody somewhere was going to take it to this extreme.

I like it for what it is. And if you're willing to destroy your body you could go to one of their live shows, which I haven't, and really feel what the band is trying to elicit in the listener. In matters of taste there is no dispute. You don't like it, someone else does. As long as this is the sound the band intended to make there is no real dispute. It's a non discussion. For the record, this music gets me far more depressed than any of that silly gore metal (which I love btw). If that is their intention, they succeeded in spades with me.

You should read the following wikipedia articles:

Hopefully, this will help you realize that there is more to music than melody, harmony, and rhythm.

Also, "modern" metal? They've been doing this since the 90's, and their stylistic origins can be traced back many thousands of years (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drone_(music))

Maybe the reason you don't like them is because you don't really like music other than what you grew up with. Not bands, but the way music is supposed to be from the way you heard it growing up.
Me, I have Great difficulties with microtonality, arab stuff and a lot of other kinds of music simply because in my life I haven't Come to expect music to sound like that.
It's not for you to judge the quality of Sunn))), as you do not understand the music.
So really what I'm saying is you are too ignorant to judge the quality of Sunn))).
