POLL: Most irritating/unhelpful/redundant TB replies

I'd add two more.

1) "A P-bass with flats"
2) "The tone of a bass comes from the player"

For the first one, it's usually in threads where, for example, the poster is asking for help picking out a bass and likely wasn't going for a p-bass.

For the second one, it's pretty obvious a Stingray doesn't sound like a P-bass so that statement is an oversimplification. Often used in threads where someone thinks they might need a different bass to achieve some sound they want, or when someone is defending against someone else's perceived limitations of P-basses.

I sound like I might hate P style basses, but that's pretty much all I use these days.

Also, a lot of replies in this poll might actually be legitimate. Someone might not specify "no trades" so why not ask? Or, it's pretty common for a TBer to spend all their money on something before GAS strikes again.

The mixed cab warning is a pretty ubiquitous reply here! Mixed cabs? YOU'LL BE SORRY! WILL SOUND CRAPPY! WILL BLOW SPEAKERS! BEAMING BEAMING BEAMING!

Also, the one where Op asks specific questions about something (X) and the replies are: You're an idiot if you want/use (X), what you really want is (Y).

LOL, I never heard this until I was a member here, I've mixed drivers for every setup I ever used and only had a minor problem with one...I guarantee most average bassists who aren't members here don't know about this or think its BS, which I agree with

the (sometimes) exhaustive list of gear a person might have in their signature. Especially if they only impart a short, terse, one-sentence post in a response. It was quite funny at first, but then, it's like in my face all the time.

When I first joined Talkbass, someone posted something like, "If you turn off signatures in settings, everyone will look a lot more intelligent". I turned off signatures way back then because I really didn't enjoy them on every post. I have never once turned them back on. Everyone did indeed seem so much more intelligent without silly signatures. If you didn't know about this, glad I could be of assistance.

Nobody has. Internet smack talk. It's loosely related to certain posters who say mean and disparaging stuff about a famous player who then slink away and hide from said famous player at the NAMM show. I've seen this more than once.

Use the search function, by far. I mean, there are times that that response is warranted. But I see guys use it a lot of times unnecessarily. IMO.

IME, using the search function can take a lot of time and scanning still. There are also threads started that are done to death so to me I would like to see more people search threads before they start them.

Also, are the users who say to use the search function the same as the ones who complain about resurrection old threads?

Redundancy is not a crime when some numb-nuts newbie insults everyone by refusing to do any homework in the forum and asking a question that has been answered 100 times. The assumption that the noob's time is more important than the time of everyone who is asked to explain something for the umpteenth time is, quite simply, an insult. It deserves nothing better than a brusque directive to search.

I was once a numb-nuts newbie and I have never forgotten the individual who gave me a hard time after my first post. And as for numb-nuts newbies insulting everyone, I am not insulted at all by any question. Even if it had been answered 1000 times. I pick and choose the threads I read and respond to. If I have nothing relevant to post, I don't.

However, I do understand peoples frustration with certain repeated things here on TB. I just have a pretty high tolerance level.

The answer to how to get the Jamerson sound is a P Bass with flats. Apparently, it's the answer to a lot of other questions, too.

gotta jump jn here...wanna sound like Jamerson?..assuming you are a good bass player, play with one finger. You'd be surprised at what it actually does...you'll be all like "hey!...that sounds like Jamerson!..."
