POLL: Most irritating/unhelpful/redundant TB replies

Most irritating/unhelpful/redundant TB reply?

  • Use the search function

  • Weight/Nut width? (not interested in buying)

  • Play it every day for 25 years straight to relic it

  • Use your ears

  • Trades?

  • Oh man if I didn't just spend my cash on __________....

  • If only the wife would let me.

  • And no, I'm not being sarcastic.

  • It's "Squier" not "Squire"

  • You spelled it wrong

  • There's nothing you can do on a 4 string that you can't do on a 7 string

  • "I don't use effects" on a post in the effects forum.

  • Nazi should be capitalized

  • Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Thursday Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bumpity, Bump

  • You should learn how to do your own setups

My favorite is not on the list, but it's a response to the question, "How can I get the kind of tone that [random famous bassist] gets with my gear?". The annoying and completely unhelpful response is:

"Why don't you just get your own tone?"

Another one you should add is "Why is carrots not on the list?"

Or is that too "meta"?

The "do a search" is perfectly valid a lot of times. For example, the monthly threads that reoccur with no new input, which include string-through/top-load, using roundwounds on a fretless, mixing a 1x15 with a 4x10, and whether John Paul Jones used rounds all through Led Zep as he claims now or if he used flats until he got the Alembic as he said in 1976... There's simply nothing new in these topics AND they reappear so frequently that it's not difficult to find several.

The answer to how to get the Jamerson sound is a P Bass with flats. Apparently, it's the answer to a lot of other questions, too.

Yes, other questions such as:

How do I get the P bass with flats sound?
Will flats on a P bass give me a P bass with flats tone?
My rounds sound nothing like flats on my P bass, what shall I do?

The most redundant replies I keep getting are "You are way off topic" and "You should be posting that in the other forum" or simply "***?" I suppose I deserve it though, and I am probably off topic here, already.. but in my defense, I cant get in two seconds of recreational computer use without some type of interruption. Scrambled eggs. I bet there would be no Theory of Relativity if Albert Einstein had a modern cell phone. You can take a lot of the current tech and flush it down the "turlet". I guess that is why I like TB, we get excited about loud rigs and complex effects modules. I am not amused by an annoying toy, but I guess you take the good with the bad..

I'm too lazy to read through the last four pages, has "it needs a tort guard" on here yet? (I'm a likely culprit of this one...)

I don't understand the people that post the "I don't use effects" lines on the effects forum not only because of the 'well, why are they chiming in?' aspect but because why are they reading it in the first place? I use effects next to never and same can be said of my stops to that piece of talkbass.....

There should be an option to vote for two choices. That way I can validate my instinctual desire to choose "search" over "weight". The "use the search" posts have almost cancelled themselves out because of sheer redundancy, but the "what does is weigh...derp...drool" question will always be my #1 pick for most obnoxious TB query.

Not a direct quote, but the meaning is certainly there...

How about. OP asks about the most suitable combo amp for their use, and members reply "go with a head and cab". I am sure the OP is aware of heads and cabs and has decided to go with a combo for their own reasons...
I don't know how many posts I've read-- the OP WANTS to buy a combo. They didn't say Head and Cab, they said COMBO. But someone ALWAYS says, "head and combo," something small. Then it gets bigger, then before you know it we're talking a Fearful and boutique micro head! I don't think I'm exaggeragting here.....:rollno:

I went with "Use Your Ears" because often times I hear it in gear tone inquiry threads. If I could sit down and hear it myself, I would, believe me. However I would come here when I can't find clips or can't play one in person. I, to this day, have never seen/played a G&L L2000 bass. I've seen some good videos on it though, but in that case I can't use my ears. When someone lines out a whole setup and asks for some characteristics it's kind of lame to reply with.

No, your not. The offenders know who they are...
