Are you enjoying the new TalkBass format?

  • Yes, it’s great.

I'm a Luddite, yet will accommodate eventually. There probably will be a whole lot of functionality that I won't use, but that's already the case with Microsoft Word, which is the toolkit for my day gig, and which I feel has infringed on easy use of very basic functions. BUT there is one thing that deeply bugs me - so much less information on each screen! All the white space might "look clean," but if the point of communications media is to communicate, then so much less data per page is a step backward. I loved being able to quickly scan twenty topics on a page and decide what to read. This new format feels like a slog. Hey, opinions are like anal canals - everybody has one! But sad to see peripheral functionality overtake the most basic function of data dissemination.

I once tried to tell my mom's boyfriend how Facebook might work better on his phone with the app instead of the web browser & he flipped out! (I'm not using any #*&$% #&%$* apps!!)
It's ironic how he adopted so many dozens of tech innovations that got him to where he is... then suddenly hit pause & tried to keep everything exactly the way it was in April 2015.
Alas, I don't think that's how progress works...

Recommended reading for those struggling with this change. Change can be tough, but change is sometimes necessary.

It's fine, I guess. Software gets old and needs to be updated from time to time. When it does, user/market trends drive what that updated version looks like. Invariably, there will be aspects of the change that please some people and displease others. I find this new version to be about equivalent to use on a desktop and a little harder to use on my phone. I'll acclimate, just like I do every time Facebook forces me to update. Before long I'll be used to this and it will be "normal".

This update was long delayed and so it was a very big jump and, therefore, a very big change. The fact that it was such a big change meant that the site admins really had to do a juggling act to get things up and running. The fact that they got things mostly ironed out in just a couple of days is nothing short of remarkable.

The change has made a lot of people grumpy. Hey, I don't like change, either. It makes me grumpy, too, but the world isn't going to stop turning just because I got grumpy about something. I'm pretty sure I'll survive the newest version of TB.

As an old guy who is rather technology-challenged, I don't do well with change. I truly appreciate all the effort and hard work put into the upgrade; but I admit that I'm having a tough time navigating.

Yesterday I was thinking it was starting to come together for me. But today, I can't even find the "Envelope" icon to go to my private messages. I'm sure I'll eventually become comfortable with it all, but I'm struggling with some of it thus far. I'm not voting for now because I think most of the problem is due to my own technological incompetence...

Thanks for educating me on the voting system. When I clicked on the arrow, I had never even heard of the concept. I thought it would scroll to the top. So clicking the "0" is a down-vote?

I don't think there's any kind of "negative" vote in this system, thankfully. Just vote for stuff you like and ignore the stuff you don't. :)

so far the poll confirmed my fears... a very vocal minority is ruining it for everyone.

While I'm here, just want to shout out the mods and support team for their tireless and thankless work. there have been tremendous improvements in navigation and load times (among many other things I'm missing) in the last 48 hours and am optimistic about the weeks to come.

It's fine. Seems to be working ok. No issues. Don't care for the overall design, but it is what it is. Hated all the "achievement" baloney, but that's either turned off or I achieved everything already, so it's not a big deal. I haven't seen anything I like about it, but that doesn't mean I hate it. Actually, I do like how easy it is to un-watch a thread. It wasn't hard on the previous version, but this one seems even easier with the "unfollow" button at the top. I like that.

Haven't tried and won't ever try the mobile version. I couldn't care less about having TB on my phone.

I don't make a career out of TB or any other site. As such I usually have to figure out how to do stuff when I need to do it. I loathe when systems change because I then have to re-learn how to do what I finally learned how to do. I hate Bill Gates / MS Office / MS Windows for this especially! My normal reaction is to be less involved with the software / site / whatever has changed as I usually can live without it and will spend my time doing something more enjoyable than learning more computer crap that will be obsolete soon. So my reply is less TB.

Is something supposed to be different on mobile? I’ve always just opened up the website on my phone when I want to get here, and I’ve never had any trouble with it. The new version seems about the same.

I already forgot about the achievements, but I agree that those were pretty annoying at first.

I've just seen some complaints about the mobile version, which I can't comment on since I have no use for it. Maybe it is different, or maybe not, but I can't help but wonder which of the vocal complainers are using mobile vs. desktop versions. The desktop browser version is ok for me.
