I'm looking for a bass with a nice mid/low-mid presence that will play well with pedals, mainly overdrive, distortion and fuzz.

To me, Stingrays sound better than anything with distortion. Pushing your budget I know, but the truth is I am not sure as I really don't pay any attention to exchange rates...

Stingrays are way more expensive in Europe, so I'm afraid they're not an option, but thanks for the response!

Since OP is in Spain, frankly, that comes across as a little less than friendly. There are some basses made outside the USA that are every bit as good as any made here.

What about the SBMM Stingray? I have heard good things about these and they get you into that same family of sounds.

Since bftbassman suggested Ibanez I'm inclined to suggest the SR650/655/656 depending on what you're into, nordy pj pickups, it's what I'd be in the market for in that price range, if I was in the market. According to google's dollars to euros rate, the SR650 comes out to 625.32€, the SR750 comes out to 759.50€.

That's the American Standard. I would get the Mexican one, which is substantially cheaper but I agree, it looks killer!

Well, I have a MIM P bass and Jazz bass and they're incredible...I think I'd be happy with an MIM Jag, too!

I went through the same process a few months ago. On my research, if buying new, and keeping in mind you want it to work well with pedals...Ibanez would be very hard to pass by. Thomann prices seem to show the SR700 in your range.

The other thing I discovered is that at the moment there's a lot of very good equipment being sold second hand at remarkable prices. It might be worth looking around.

Not sure of how much they are sold for or the availability of them, but there are some real nice Korean Spectors out there. If not those then, the Ibanez SRX series are sweet. They're active, 24 fret, 4 and 5 string, and nice growly MM pickups. There are versions that are neck thru also. I've played a couple and loved them, just never had a chance to buy the one I want.

As I don't know much about the EU market and pricing, a used one might be the solution if the budget is that small.. (budget was not discussed in the poll, or I might have refrained from answering).

and it's not about patriotism or xenophobia (as I'm neither).. it's about getting the best.. at this time, the US has that cornered.. baring a few exceptions in Germany and the UK, possibly Japan..
