My L2500 (your L2000) sounds really good with my MXR M80 dirt pedal. Passive mode seems to work best with some pedals and since you have the switch, you can make that happen!
I voted for the Schecter Diamond P. I think that they are excellent basses in that price range and are often overlooked. I don't currently own a Schecter, but I've owned several and liked them a lot.

Sounds like quite a few exceptions.
Country of origin is as meaningful as driver size in speaker cabinets. Too many other factors in play for that to be a meaningful trait.

Nonsense. I drive AND ride a BMW, use PBSwiss and Festool tools, play with Marklin model trains, buy my wife Luis Vuitton purses and use Canon and Fuji and Leica optics but to name several exceptions...
Now then for bass guitars .. Well, just read by signature.
That Fender Standard Jaguar Bass is tight. Lot's of usable settings. It would be my second choice if ranked. My first choice for you is the Standard Dimension Bass. I believe that one is not active. I haven't been able to play one yet, but have played active versions of the Dimension bass, and again, plenty of usable tones. It doesn't get a lot of love right now, but I believe the Dimension series basses will be highly sought after in the future due to their versatility.
For lows and mids, as noted by the OP? Not in my experience with J basses.
I'd go Fender Blacktop P. I haven't played any of the basses on the list, but I'd expect a P with those pickups would be a good choice. I looked into the Blacktop P for a while and liked the clips I heard online (FWIW).
OP here! Today I tried a G&L L2000. Pretty nice bass, just not my thing.

Go with the underdog and get the Schecter.
They re-did some of their basses for 2015 and they are stellar for the Money.

If you're considering Ibanez, they are about to release a new series of SR with fanned frets ([Invalid or Expired Link Removed]); if I was going to buy a new instrument I'd definitely wait for these to become available and try one. Plus it gives you some time to save up a little bit more (they are ~900€ according to pre-orders)
Agreed! The new version of the P is very nice but a bit more expensive. If you want the older model you can buy one directly from the Schecter site for only $369, which IMO is a steal! Link Removed
OP here! I got to try an Ibanez SRX360 bass and I really liked the sound with the preamp set flat. I'm actually thinking of buying one and modding it to make it passive...has anyone tried to do this?

If you like it as is, why would you mod it to make it passive? The preamp will give the bass more options to cut or boost the signal if needed.
I use a couple of pedals that don't work very well with most active electronics (a Woolly Mammoth fuzz for example). That and I would like to avoid batteries as much as possible.
I agree with giving Schecter basses a try-I think it'll suit the kind of sound you're looking for.
Also if you want a bass with an active/passive built in, there's always the Yamaha TRBX504.
