"Poopie"...are you ****ing kiding???

I just used in a post a common four letter slang word for excrement beginning with S and ending with T fully expecting to see **** in my post. Instead it changes it to "poopie"? No shaging way man. I know the rules are the rules but I write the way I speak and if that needs to get ****ed out to save some imaginary delicate ears I'm resigned to that BUT DO NOT CHANGE WHAT I SAY INTO SOME CUTESIE MAKE ME WANNA PUKE JUNE CLEAVER BS. You've make some excellent changes to the site lately but this is not one of them. It's utterly outrageous and begs for a creative workaround.

Not sure who's being serious and who's not, but... it's about kids. All of the site admins and many of the mods have kids who are around when we surf TB. Because of this, we figure lots of other folks do, too. In the past, profanity was simply against the rules and people were constantly reporting it and expecting us to waste precious moments of our lives editing /infracting it. Ultimately, we decided that we don't have time for that poopie, so we thought it would be fun to simply automate the task. Hopefully, some of the other more common expletives will be creatively modified as well soon. :)

Respectfully, anyone who doesn't like the profanity filter and feels the need to show how ****ing hard their internet **** is can simply type "****" when they want it to read "****" and **** when they want it to read ****. That poopie ain't rocket science. :)

We'll have to agree to disagree on that. Paul (site owner and main site admin) has 4 kinds, all very young, and the youngest was born what, about a month ago? My own son is much older, but has never played GTA or seen any QT movies and while he's old enough to understand the nuances of profanity now, he wasn't always. And during that time, I was very grateful that this site, which I spend so much time on and always seemed to have a browser window opened to - attended or not - did not allow profanity. And in the end, this has always been a rule at TB. As a matter of fact, the original site rules from... 1999?... regarding this are still up under the rules link:

Rule #2: Do not post profanity. Because this forum is viewed by bassists of all ages, all posts must be suitable for viewing by minors. All profanity must be completely covered with asterisks, completely substituted with "@%$#" symbols. Better yet, leave it out. Any use of creative lettering or partially masked profanity is not allowed. Obscene material is not permitted, nor are links to websites containing such material or anything deemed inappropriate for minors. If what you have to say wouldn't be suited for network TV, don't post it here.

This is just an automated way to enforce it that doesn't waste so much moderator time and energy. As always, anybody who wants asterisks can always just type them.
