I have yet to take a current pic but I've got plans,...Not Pictured is the Source Audio Multiwave Bass Distortion Pro (say that three times fast).

Also I sent the 442 off to Varun after he got mugged,...sort of a pay it forward kind of thing.

I also have my OC-2 in line after the TU-2 instead of in the loop (as pictured) that way it is completely wet and then I use the LS-2 to blend my fuzz and filter. The SD-2 still pushes the Groove Regulator (using it as a clean boost), it just sounds better that way.

I've got Jared Lash's old Chunky Cheese coming in (if my wife will ever put the check in the mail). And I'm going to pick up a PT-JR for the MuRF and paraphernalia.

Posted this near the end of the last thread so I'm going to shamelessly re-post it.

I recently discovered that I can mount the fuel tank underneith the pedaltrain. Quite tempted to get a more "roary" fuzz to add on as the Noisebox is for lo-fi glitchyness, the Abunai 2 is for OD and the Voodoobass goes into the realm of fuzz, but it's pretty dark sounding. I think something like a Supercolider, Pickle Pie or a Devi Ever Hyperion would do the trick.

After upgrading to a PT-2, I've been able to really set up my board to how I want it.

..I've also been working to really clean up the underside of the board. I special ordered some right-angle cables from Voodoo Labs to accommodate everybody:

The chain runs as follows:

Signal 1: NS WAV EUB > Fishman Pro Platinum Bass > Radial Bigshot I/O Input 1
Signal 2: Electric bass > Radial BigShot I/O Input 2

BigShot > Boss OC-2 > Demeter Compulator > EHX LBM > Barber LTD SR > Tech21 VT Bass > Electronix Submarine > EB Vol JR

*Korg Pitchblack is always on through the Bigshot and tunes both instruments.

*All pedals powered by Voodoo Labs PP2+


Big thanks to everyone on the board here for helping me out in working getting this thing built.

This is basically everything with the exception of the extra RS112 that I keep in the practice space. This is my gig rig for the foreseeable future. As you might notice from my other pics, I have further simplified and I couldn't be happier. Yes, having the MPBD up in the corner like that is not optimal, but I don't kick any of the switches on the fly (though I do use the VP Jr to morph between settings on the fly), so I don't need to reach it easily.

The Fine knob should be a requirement for all ring mods, it makes dialing things in just perfect extremely easy, which really is key for such an effect. The Filter mode creates this awesome warble type sound that I can only imagine will sound completely epic in a mix. We shall see.

Good enough to bump the blue ringer so far? Was that mostly a power supply and ease of use thing, or does it compare pretty well as far as bleedthrough/etc goes?

Here I go,

I recently traded my PT-2 set up for this SKB board. I like it better initially, I got more room for stuff now.

The Whammy, Ashdown compressor, and Delta Lab aren't mainstays. they're on there cause I had the room, cableing and power.

Seriously GASing for an Enigma, and Boss Space Echo pedal.

Well, the power supply on the EHX is equally weird (40V buh?!) so I still have to use a wallwart, but the layout of the pedal is much more "normal" and easier to work with on a pedalboard. You don't get all the fancy input options, but the EHX sound quality is pretty comparable. The frequency range is limited by comparison, but well within where I normally use the Frostwave, and is much easier to dial in, especially with the Fine knob. The blend is nicer on the Frostwave, but it works good enough on the EHX. No tremolo with the EHX though, which is half the fun with the Frostwave. The Filter mode is ace, it kills the upper signal while boosting the volume on the lower one, which sounds a lot better than I thought it would. Crazy subharmonic stuff there, nice.

The Frostwave wins hands down for build quality, tweakability, sheer range of tone, and for doubling as a great tremolo. The EHX sounds nearly as good for much cheaper, has the Filter mode, and is much easier to live with for quick adjustments. I'll be keeping them both (along with the Z.Vex Ringtone, though I have yet to really fall in love with that one), because holy hell do I love ring modulators. :)

Thanks for the comparison... I've given up on holding out for a blue ringer and can't decide between just buying something or ripping my hair out and building one... I guess that EHX is probably cheap enough to pick up as a nice temporary ring mod while I find the time to solder.

I've seen maybe two for sale since I bought mine a few years ago. I hope Paul Perry starts building stuff again, his stuff is great. Were I a synth dude I'd probably track down the whole set.

Not-so-fun Fact: I bought mine at an absolutely awful time for the USD/AUD exchange rate, even at today's Oh So Rare prices I'd never recoup what I spent, haha. Still worth it.
