Post your 1590a (tiny pedals) pedalboard

Tell me about the pure boost- any grit to be had? How is the eq?

hey sean,

I just tested the Pure Boost, on it's own, with my passive MIA Fender P Bass , with Elixiir Nanoweb Nickel Rounds, thru my dbx db12 Active DI.

with bass / treble EQ at 12 (may not be "flat") and Gain knob up to 12 o'clock it is very clean, with the volume at 12 too, past 12 o'clock on the gain and it does indeed get dirty, not quite tube warmth, maybe at 1 o'clock.

The EQ is bass and treble boost /cut, the pedal doesn't seem to lose any bottom end,at least I don't have the bass more than 12 o'clock.

With the volume knob you can boost a clean clean signal a lot and leave it clean. It can get dirty too, but if you want that, the Mooer Thunderball is much much better.

Somebody here did a Mooer Orange 90 demo and it was beautiful. Definitely on my list. That demo is in one of the 1590A threads.
Google is barraging me with Donner ads, and given that modern digital tech is cheap and that our economy is built on third world exploitation these things are looking like they're worth the risk. I don't like my real estate being used up by occasional pedals such as modulations and delays.

Me:

Just had a quick count-up, looking for popular pedals (someone asked for a 'consensus' somewhere recently).

TC Polytune mini crops up 6 times (all boards but one).

SFX Red dragon appears on 4 boards.

Appearing 3 times each we have
  • SFX Micro Fuzz
  • Mooer Thunderball
  • Mooer Graphic B
Appearing twice we have
  • SFX Big Beautiful Bass (B3)
  • Xotic SP Comp
  • Xotic EP Boost
  • Mooer Bass Sweeper
  • TC Ditto
  • TC HOF
  • TC Corona
I won't bother listing the singles.

I wonder if Max would let you or somebody else reverse-engineer his/your Comp, since he has no plans on doing anything with it.

As you say, it's probably down to Max whether it's okay for someone to borrow his designs. If he was to give permission, I would guess he'd share schematics, meaning you wouldn't need to reverse-engineer. Maybe he'd licence his design to another builder ? Someone who wants one needs to start by asking Max.

Yes, to be clear, in no way was I implying anyone should do anything with Max's design without his express, written consent.
I was "thinking aloud" and poorly-worded my thought; obviously "reverse-engineering" wouldn't be needed with his given consent, unless Max's copy of his schematics were toast for some reason such as HD failure or freak act of nature...

First off, thank you for this thread. I'm updating my board since stumbling upon these micro pedals. It excites me to there's so many great options out there.
Second, ^^^^^ this above... This is absolutely fantastic!! How does one rig this up??
Third, it's a shame sfx isn't offering the comp any longer... After seeing yours, that's the first pedal, other than a tuner, I was going to replace. It's OK though, I've noticed several with the xotic effects comp, it definitely is at the top of my gas list, alon with the Mooer. Anyone have experience with the Mooer?

I really wouldn't go for the Mooer blue comp. l struggled to get unity gain combined with a clean compressed sound.

There's nothing special about the 'rigging' of the jam pedalboard. Apart from the obvious (2 pedals joined by a pancake jack lead) I used an old drinks coaster (no cutting required) for the board itself, then acquired a 2-way daisy-chain, a battery and a battery-to-boss-power-jack connector. These are plentiful on eBay but I'm afraid I can't remember exactly what they're called, though I seem to remember they're used to power web cams / spy cams. ONE BIG CAVEAT. The power adapter may come wired with the wrong polarity (depends on exactly the intended use it's sold for). Once you get your connector and add a battery, check (with a meter) that it's wired the same way as a power supply, and reverse the wires (maybe do this inside the plug) before connecting to your pedals. Sorry, I can't tell you much more, I did this maybe a couple of years ago and I can't remember all the details.

Great! Thank you Sir. I appreciate the link, and the heads up about the Mooer comp. I noticed they have a yellow comp as well, can't recall the name right now. Any experience with it? And either one of their reverbs, to my ears they both sound great... Well, from YouTube clips

Mooer Yellow Comp – Diamond compressor

How accurate the list is, I don't know. The Mooer Yellow Comp may be a good one, but can it really ape a Diamond, let alone "clone" its tone and functionality? Before the Diamond Bass Comp, a lot of bass players used the Diamond (guitar ) comp – I would think the Mooer is a copy of the guitar comp and not the bass comp, but will it still sound good on bass, as does the Diamond guitar comp? Again, IDK.
