Post Your '51-55 Precision or Tele-inspired bass

56Front.jpg

Fantastic. Do you have any more pics of this instrument?

Here's a 1971 Telecaster bass.
I was inspired to remove the frets and inlay graduated width walnut fret markers that I carved with a pocket knife.
Stripped, contoured, reshaped and refinished the body in Ultraspar marine varnish. Still have her.

The Darkstar is very even, but can experience a hum in both live and studio situations.

The strat rail style pickups are very even. The 15ohm "hot" strat rail in the pine body orange bass is relativly muddy, probably not for everyone's live sound. The 12 ohm rail in the sunburst bass is even, and full sounding, especially compared to the stock pickup.

The Muy Grande / Rio Grande in the blonde bass is a little loud on the low E, but that could be the adjustment of the pickup height.

The aqua bass with stock Dirnt electronics is even, with the most user friendly tone out of all of these basses. It is very much a "go-to" bass with no excusses, plug & play in any situation.

The first remake of the telly headed Pbass was my first also. Added a Rick bridge pickup to it. Worked out well. Traded it in on one of the first MM Sting Rays which I still own. It was hard to part with but cash flow didnt allow keeping both.

Here's my 1990 MIJ '51 Precision. I'm the original owner, the body is finished in black nitro, and the pickup is a Seymour Duncan 1/4 pounder. I added Hipshot tuners (with a D-tuner), a Badass II bridge bridge, Charvel knobs, and a Fender Mike Dirnt Bass pickguard. Then I played the heck out of it. The switch between the volume and tone is not wired up yet.

I always dreamed about these specs!

What do you think?

'54 ash body in alpine white
Black pickguard
Maple jazz neck/Rosewood board
Not sure between tele or precision headstock

Nordstrand MM4.2 pick in sweet spot
bigsplit in tele singlecoil position

Nordstrand 2 band preamp

Sounds cool!
