This one's mine - from a local festival in 2014. The Annual Drool Pigs Festival. The drool pigs themselves are pictured, "guarding" the stage. Big outdoor dog-friendly festival, 3 days of great music.
Also my last gig with my musical partner Ted, who suffered a massive stroke about a month later.
Coincidentally my favorite pic was taken just this past weekend. Everything felt/sounded right and the band was firing on all cylinders:
And this is my all-time favorite gig picture. Many years ago, playing guitar with my old friend Ed on bass. I dimly remember the venue and it's a crappy photo but we're absolutely lost in the music in the best way possible.
Summer 2020, gazebo in Veteran's Memorial Park in Bayfield WI. It was our first appearance up there with Carmen singing and on cajon. It was a perfect night as gigs go.
I really like how the photo follows through the gazebo and you can see the city pier/docks in the background.
One day down the road I'm going to do an evolution of a great venue... Been playing there for 10 years. Started off with the expectation of 500-1000 people... now it's closer to 20,000.
This year... (Note the significant hat upgrade... but probably the same pair of Nike Monarchs)
A couple years back
The first year I played there... about 10 years ago.
Happy to say that one of my bands had the honor af being the first band to play on the new stage.
This was a close second. We played as a filler band on the 3rd story of a roof while bands on the main stage rotated. Pretty wild... and as unsafe as could be for a bunch of old dudes. That's our guitar player... and notice that there wasn't room on stage for the bass amp... That post card of a stage had 2 keyboardists, guitar drums and bass. and very little to keep anyone from falling off.
What we saw from the stage/pile of wood... Had a great time and got to BS with Randall Hall (Lynyrd Skynyrd) and Kevin Chalfant (The Storm, Journey). But I have to say that hauling gear to a roof VIA scissors lift was a challenge.
Halloween party in 2006 with Blizzard: A Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne. Although a crappy and blurry photo from a spectator friend, I thought the Native American costume worked well with my long black hair. I was playing 6 string fretless, 2 keyboards, bass pedals and also doing the recording (see laptop and rack interface in back). Such multitasking made my playing and the recording suffer and I didn't do it again after that. Our singer was dressed as Ozzy naturally, and he was quite good.
Or, maybe this one. It reminds me of an easier time when I had just started legit touring when I was about 19 and carefree. The shows were just about fun and not as much pretense. Didn't have to prove anything, just wanted to act stupid, get loud, and put on a show.
