Just kind of letting it sink in for the moment. Having one board is nice, but my current modular setup has proven to be very handy. Decisions, Decisions. :confused: lol

Signal Chain:
EB 6180 Volume (tuner out connected to the TU-2) > 105Q > MXR BOD > 3Leaf (Pork Loin in the effects loop) > Prometheus > MXR BEF > Barge Concepts Grinder > SFT > Keeley Sparkle Drive (possibly swapped with the Pork Loin) > BDDI > Fromel Seraph > PS-5 > Whammy > SMMwH > POG2 > Hardwire Reverb > RC-2

Cool stuff! How do you use the Sparkle drive compared to the Pork Loin? Those would seem to be the two most similar pedals on the board.

is the Barge Concepts a filter?

i dig the idea of one big board. but it was such a b**ch to haul around a PT-Pro. i'm liking the idea of multiple smaller boards strung together. think i'm gonna try that soon.

everybody that has multiple filters on board - y'all find that you use both/all a lot? or does one turn into your main filter and the others have either VERY specific uses or get ignored like a fat grrL?

unless you're into chubbies i guess. then the main filter would be your fattie. fat, cholesterol-rich, buttery chub funk tone. and the ignored would be the Can't Hang At The Buffet chickies.

Thanks guys! Like I said though, just toying around with the idea. I really do like my modular setup... even without cables/case/etc. that PTPro is pretty heavy. :hmm: Having a modular setup means I wouldn't have to schlep that bear of a board to everything. Even when it wasn't full, it was a b!tch to lug around. I'm already planning on scrapping the big board idea (it sure was novel though) and rebuilding my modular setup... yet again. lol

The Keeley isn't quite as warm/smooth as the Pork Loin, but has a more grind available after the mod. You're right, they do remain fairly swappable though. Joe Public probably wouldn't know the difference. That's why the Pork Loin would be in the 3Leaf's effects loop, a different sound for the filter. ;)

Yep, that's a Barge Concepts Grinder. :bassist:

The four filters in the picture all do have quite different voicings, would be used based on songs I guess. The Prometheus is a little darker, the MXR is a brighter and more aggressive, the Grinder is a Swiss army knife... can do any filter sound you're thinking of, but can be darn tricky to dial in. Your description of chubbies is exactly how the 3Leaf sounds and that's why it's my favorite.

Chubby girls? Not really my flavor. Chubby filters? PERFECT. :D lol

Signal path is:

Bass > LS-2 > Mastotron > Musket > microPOG > Enigma > XXLB > Pitchblack > WeepingDemon > VTBass > Tremolo > StereoElectricMistress

Then back into the LS-2, then into the amp. Loop B in the LS-2 is left empty so I can blend in my clean bass with any effect.

This has everything I need for my current band, and all the pedals are being used live at some point. I really like this setup (the XXLB's glaring color notwithstanding).

And, well... damn, 5stringecko! That's a nice one!

what type of board is that? does it allow you to use the pedals while they're still in the case? it doesn't matter to me, but my bandmate has this weird thing where he thinks having to take a board out of the case all the way is asinine. lol... ongoing arguments rokk.

that's funny... you have 2 of the fuzzes i thought i would love and then couldn't stand in a band setting. they do some great tones, i just couldn't get them to work for me.

do you always mic your cab? not having a DI at the end of your signal chain hasn't been a problem?

That's a Hellocase HPR-2 (made here in Brazil). Yea, the board and case are one and the same. I just pull off the lid and - bam- there's the board. I tend to agree with your bandmate, heh..

The musket and mastotron? What if I tell you I use them both cascaded (mastotron *into* musket) in some songs? I like them. The masto does the synthy thing, the musket does the massive thing. I find the musket can stand out in the mix better than the Bass Big Muff which I used to use - and I can still blend it with clean if I need, using the LS-2 (no, the phase inversion thing is not an issue at all). I'm still open to trying other pedals in their place, but right now they fit the bill very nicely.

Well, I don't play *that* often (we do a proper gig, in medium-sized venue with an audience, maybe once every couple months), but the last couple shows I played, I was able to mic the cab. If I'm ever unable to do that or if I'm feeling lazy to carry my cab around, I'll use a DI off-board (Meteoro MPX500).

yeah.... i haven't played around with fuzzes into fuzzes that much. i can get as doomy as i need with one pedal usually.

and damn it, that's just cheating. the LS-2 as a blend is just the smart thing to do. i hate fuzzes/distos that don't have blends on them.

... but i also hate using a pedal that i don't like UNLESS i have another pedal running with it.

really cool board tho.

I've been thinking about doing this same setup with the LS-2. Does it blend the clean tone well? Do you have it set up so that when you stomp it, it bypasses all your effects?

Those be small zip ties (Home Depot) and .75" x .75" zip tie anchors (adhesive on one side). Home Depot or Lowes has 1" x 1" anchors like this, but the .75" are the perfect size for Pedaltrain rails. You can get the anchors online from computer supply places...just google "zip tie anchors" and you'll have choices.

Takfar, thanks for the compliment! Yours is pretty sweet too, very nice use of space.

Zippy, +1 for the neat & tidy small board! I'm anal about my cabling as well, those zip tie anchors are a great tip.

The big board already got dismantled, unfortunately. Didn't even get to the cabling process. I decided that it was just way more than I wanted to deal with. I should probably sell that darn thing and be done with it.

So...

I was out hunting for cases and picked up a Pedaltrain PT-1. The hard case is pretty much exactly the size I was looking for to work out my next DIY pedalboard build. The actual frame will probably just collect dust, but it was actually cheaper to just buy the Pedaltrain than getting a mixer/DJ/rack/whatever case.

New pedalboard design coming soon!
