Post Your Pedalboard - Part II

Alright. I'm looking at building a pedal board. I'm wanting a nice chorus that can be subtle to really thick (I've been recommended the Digitech). I want a good OctaveDivider, and a reverb. I was looking at the EBS pedals for the Octave and Reverb, but they are pricey (especially the reverb at $260). I was also looking at the EBS BassIQ envelope filter, but that's not a priority since I have a Dunlop Bass Wah. I also want a EHX Small Stone (regular or Nano?). Suggestions are welcome.

If you're going Digital for the Chorus, I would suggest a Line 6 Space Chorus. The sounds you get from this thing are really nice.

For an octaver, the Digitech BSW without a doubt. Much cheaper than the EBS, and the tracking on it is faultless. Plus, if you get this you could use it as a filter too.

Have no experience with reverb pedals, sorry.

The Boss RV-5 sounds awsome on bass. Gate mode was sweet (though fairly useless ), put the Plate mode that the Gate mode is built on is godly

Oh, and there's also a more "normal" Room mode too. Hall just sounds creeeeeeeeeeepy

Yep, you absolutely have to write a review of the Polyphase on bass! There is next to no info out there!

Does it loose some low end?
Is the effect strong or subtle?
Do the extra knobs give you cool sound shaping possibilities?
Is there 4 or 8 stages - does the manual mention anything?
How's the envelope control?
Enough headroom?
Can you do Larry G. style Jet Phasing with a dist/fuzz before it?

Please share your thoughts! I don't know which phaser I should GAS about (this or the moog one).

12 is not too much imo... but nothing is really too much imo..

Anyway, you should put the DI in the chain according to how you want your FOH to sound. If you want your direct signal wet, put it after the effects. If you want it dry, put it before. It's just up to you.

First of all: Any suggestions on an order change? I think that will be the best, anyway I should try and swap them as much as I can!

And, with this settings, where would you put the DI (Behringer BDI21)?

Last question, I only want the DI feature on the BDI, any suggestion on a good DI on the same price range as the BDI?

FOH is Front Of House. Basically saying do you want your effected or clean tone coming out of the PA?

If you want effected, put the DI at the end, if you want clean through the PA then DI first in the chain.

So if I put the DI first and turn on a pedal, I wouldn't be sending any effect to the PA and the tone would remain as if the pedal was off???

Exactly that. The effected tone would still come out of your amp though.

It has three function selections: ENV- Envelope followercontrols the phase shifter, LFO - Phase shifter is controlled by a low-frequency oscillator, and then EXP - Phase shifter is controlled by an expression pedal. I will be getting a pedal to try that out asap!

I gained low end in LFO mode. The ENV mode stayed pretty much the same EQ. The sound can be as subtle or out there as you need it. I wil be using it for subtle textures and along with my wah, I will be producing some crazy feedback/ringing. I can't wait to hook a good delay up to it.

The manual does not mention 4 or 8 stages and I have never heard anyone talk about it. So I really don't know.

I fell in love with the pedal because of the square wave oscillation. As crazy as it sounds, it almost has a laid back groove in it. You really have to hear it. The triangle wave oscillation is smooth, very natural wave. The overall tone is warm and not overly metallic, which is very important to me.

I will find all types of uses for it. If you slap/pop, it gives a great boost and really makes the "pops" ring and breath.

If you get a chance to try one out, I strongly suggest it. The only draw back is that it is 24v. But EH is kind enough to give you an adapter.

You can make it as difficult or as simple as you want. Plus with the expression pedal option, it really opens up for more experimentation.

I have never used a Moog. No one around here carries the brand. I should try Atlanta Bass, the next time I down that way.

not too complicated, but it suits me fine:

Bass -> EBS Octabass -> EH Muff -> Digitech DigiDelay -> EBS Multicomp Compressor -> Ernie Ball VP Jr. Volume Pedal -> Radial ProDI passive direct box -> out

Why don't you put the compressor in front of the octaver... The Octabass will sound even better!!!

Nice set up! I would suggest reversing the order of the Little Big Muff and the Fulltone. I have both on my board and the Little Big Muff sounds fantastic when run after the Fulltone, set to a light overdrive. They make a sweet pairing that way.

Order aside (as that is irrelevant at this point until you start experimenting with order), I see two issues with this chain:

1) Why do you need the Hum Debugger? Yes, it's useful, but only if your problem is hum. In other words, it's the answer to anyone using vintage or noisy pickups. However, it does nothing for other types of noise, including hiss. Are you using a Jazz bass or something with problematic single coils (the most popular applications for the Hum Debugger)?

2) I noticed you have both an MXR Micro Amp and an Ernie Ball volume pedal. How much control do you really need over your volume? Is the ability to sweep your volume levels high or low essential, or do you really only need a boost?
