Post your pedalboards - Part IV

So... today I did some work and cleaned up and added a couple of pedals to my main board. I think the Russian BB is going to go away.. I love it, but I'm just not using it as much as my other followers.

The main board is: Mr. Squishy -> Morely ABY -A-> Fender Reverb -> Amp

-B-> TU-2 -> Hot Tubes -> Big Buff -> Crybaby -> Micro Qtron -> Nano Dr. Q -> USA Bassballs -> Small Stone -> FAB flanger -> BOSS CEB-3 -> Amp

The smaller board (pearched up top) is Phase 90 -> Small Clone -> Holy Grail -> SansAmp -> Mixing Board

Then I have the BMS, DD-3, and the Ring Modulator. Those I use before the compressor when the need arises, and usually have them on a music stand at waist-level so I can do quick changes to the settings.

oh.. and the night0time shot.. that FAB flanger is painfully bright!

well if you can get a similar tone with it thats cool, but it isn't synth being used in the song, just combinations of distortion

I completely disagree. Whether or not the tones are "synthesized" may be debatable insofar as the word "synthesize" just means "to combine simple elements to create something new". But when you veer off to say the "synthesized" tones are "controlled by the bass", you mislead, since they are not being triggered, but are rather just the bass signal itself being squared off and divided.

Ok, I guess it comes to how you define synthesized then. I would call the divided tone a synthesized signal that's remixed with the instrument signal, but I guess that's debatable.

FINALLY MANAGED TO GET A PICTURE OF MY PEDALBOARD YAY!!!!!!!

The Signal Chain is easy to follow it goes FM4 > English Muff'n > DD-6 > Small Stone > Big Crush Compressor > Deep Blue Chorus. I would have a Big Muff before my FM4 if my guitarist would give it back!

Could I ask if there's a reason for the delay in the middle of the chain? What does it add?

The reason why my delay is in the middle of the chain is that i like delay before the phase shifter so that when they are on together each repeat to be at a different point of phase if you know what i mean, rather than the swoosh being repeated like "woosh-woosh-woosh-woosh" and then i have the compresoor after the Small Stone to cancel out the notorious volume drop and then i prefer the sound of my chorus if after compression. That is why my delay is in the middle of the chain.

it's built locally. a friend had it custom made but decided it was too big for him. dimensions are 33x19 inches.

All right! I finally got my board done with pictures! I numbered the chain since the cabling is all under the board so it's hard to follow.

Well, there it is. As if it's not big enough already, there's still a few pedals I want to try and maybe add and/or swap a couple... the power supplies can go underneath the board if they need to, so I've got room to add stuff.

Hey Mickey, how does that Micro Vibe sound for bass? That's one of the pedals I've been eyeballing.

Now on to the next project, a small board with wah/compressor/chorus/tuner. I play bass for a church choir and bringing in the Death Star this morning was cool, lots of ooo's and aahhh's, but it's just too big.

why do you have the clone theory and ce5(?) though? i assume they're set for different uses/sounds but are they that different?

i had a similar setup. i had the ceb-3 then a ce-5 one was subtle chorus and one was full-on chorus(the ce-5)

Thanks guys! I've had multieffects for years, so it's having a pedalboard is taking a little getting used to, but I'm really happy with the way it turned out!

The Long Answer: Yeah, I thought two chorus pedals on one board would be a little strange too, but I'm kinda picky about Chorus because it's one of my favorite effects. At the moment, they're both still in the evaluation phase... I'm still in search of the chorus pedal that really makes me think "WOW, that's IT!," you know?

But you're right, they ARE set for different sounds... The Boss is set for a more subtle "you can leave it on all the time" effect. It's enough to be noticeable, adding a nice light shimmer, but not too much to be a distraction.

The Clone Theory is a different beast. It's classified as a Chorus, but it's really more of a doubler... think "octaver" but instead of adding a note an octave down, it adds a note at the same pitch (I hope that makes sense), so it's a pretty different sounding chorus than the CEB-3. Also, it can actually do TWO different chorus sounds with the flip of the mode knob. Chorus 1 has a fixed depth and I've got Chorus 2 set heavy on the depth, to an almost watery sound.

Sorry, I know that was a little long-winded...

The Bottom Line: I'm still searching for my "holy grail" chorus. The CEB-3 has nice tasteful sounds and the Clone Theory is a very rich sounding, versatile chorus. Both are really good pedals, but the CEB-3 feels a little TOO subtle sometimes and the Clone Theory is a little on the hissy side.

If I find my chorus holy grail, it'll replace one or both of these and then I'll have even more room for new pedals!

Sweet setup! I have the same size Pedal Train noard and am in the process of putting it all together. I love the design. keeps things neat and tidy.

used to have the ceb3 a year or two ago but gave i up. it did have some nice tones and regretted it for a while and now im looking at the clone theory. might just save up longer though for an analogman but im still looking for cheaper alternatives.
