Been lurking, first post. Some of you guys have some AMAZING boards/setups...

EH Hum Debugger --> Boss TU-2 --> Boss LMB-3 --> Boss GEB-7 --> Boss CEB-3 --> Boss DD-6 --> Aphex 1402 --> Aphex 1404 --> ProCo CB-1

Nothing spectacular here, but it pretty much does what I want. The newest addition is the EH Hum Debugger--works pretty well. I buzzed pretty badly going into our P.A. @ church, and this got rid of it. The guitar player (who buzzes like an angry hornet's nest) thought it messed w/his tone, but I'm just fine with it.

I saw in the pedalboard post vI (or was it vII?) that someone had a Tone Factor Eleven pedal--hahahaha. I have no need for one, but, if there's anything else going on here anytime soon, I think I'll find one of those.

No, not really. The **IDEA** was to limit it @ the front, and then make a nice even signal to the board w/the Aphex (using the DI out). Buzzed like crazy, so the ProCo box w/a more effective ground lift (haven't figured that out, either) came in and, to this point, I've just left the rest of the chain it as is. The LMB actually was taken out, and then there wasn't enough gain to feed Aviom's we're using, so back in it went. The sound system is only 3 months old, so we're still learning nuances...

It's functional and that's never a bad thing. It's got most of what you'd need for that kind of setting, and not overkilling with effects, but instead using them in taste, is great for where you're at. An A+ to you, sah!

So you're saying this eliminates that irritating hum from fluorescent lighting + single coiled pickups?

Guitards think cables going the 'wrong way around' mess with their tone. I'm not surprised

Hey Birdland71!

Using a compressor as a boost pedal (or two for that matter) is likely adding noise. Have you considered moving around the order of your effects to see if you can lower the noise floor?

Unfortunately the Boss pedals tend to suck tone and volume, especially if you have a whole string of them.

Just for kicks you may want tor try this order:

from instrument to

1. Punch factory
2. Boss eq
3. chorus
4. delay
5. exciter
6. di box

leave out the tuner, hum debugger and Boss limiter and see if this makes a difference. The tuner, you may be able to run in a different way as it may be sucking tone.

The Punch factory works really well at the start of the signal chain to regulate your other pedals and adds no real noise in my experience.

Adding eq can also add noise. Is your eg for achieving a different tone or do you leave it on all the time? I found that i could easily live without the eq just by tweaking my amp the way i wanted it.

You may find that by just re arrangeing the order and settings on your pedals, that you can drastically improve your noise and volume loss issues.

You have a lot of pedals on your board that aren't really effects per se but tone shaping and problem solving pedals.

If you want to use everything, consider a multi true bypass loop box such as the Loopmaster units with 4 or 5 loops, a tuner output and a master bypass. This would likely solve all your problems without replacing all your pedals. The improvement in tone would be immediately apparant.

Thanks for the input! I will try re-ordering stuff and see how that goes. As far as bagging some of the pedals and simply using the pre on my amp, well, we're going "amp-less" @ church. All PA. And Avioms w/in-ears for monitoring. Very, VERY strange sensation, but, from reading here, there and everywhere, it'll eventually be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I appreciate you guys' input, and I'll let you know what I find out after re-ordering and removing some of the stuff out of the chain.

I'll let my LBM go if I find a better replacement. Emphasis on the if...

So far, the MXR Blowtorch became its companion instead of its successor. And the Wooly Mammoth isn't my thing... the Swollen Pickle doesn't seem different enough to warrant the expense of its boutique clones... I don't want a Big Muff clone... the Tone Bender sounds good but doesn't seem necessary in my arsenal...

Heck, only the B:Assmaster has me intrigued. And if I bought that, I bet it'd just end up joining the other two distortion pedals on my board

I love the LBM by itself, but I hate it in a band situation. I can never hear it, its sounds like it cuts off my sound entirely... blending it with clean tone doesn't to it for me, I mean you can hear the bass then but you cant hear the fuzz still...

I think I need a replacement...

thanks a lot. yeah its funny, it's worth about as much as my Amp, Cab, and Bass combined. But, I the kinda person that likes to finish what they started, so when I started my effects hunt I wanted to end it before I get another bass, amp or cab. So I got 1 or 2 more to get, and then you'll get to see the final finished photos............


well, until some wicked cool new boutique pedals come out and my GAS flares up

I loved the name for that myself. I made myself a booster, and I like having it. It lets me add that little bit extra when I need it. I've been using it quite a bit. Its great for solos too

yeah, it does that, but I don't think that you will find a fuzz that won't do that in a band situation - the problem is in the band, they have to change their sound when you use fuzz... guitars should play something on the upper strings, preferably clean or maybe overdriven (not distorted unless soloing), the same with keyboards... only then you have enough "space" to play with effects like fuzz, imo...

Would have been mine I had serial number 11 as well in black sparkle, sold it recently as the Cream Pie is a better sounding boost pedal. Good luck finding one they made about 25 of them and are fully discontinued as far as I know.

Yep. I was trying to boost my signal in my old Ric. Its gone a tad quiet over the years and doesn't open up my BR-2 auto wah very well. I was cranking my Punch Factory to 10. It Got a tad noisy.

Im hoping my Fodera model 2000 pre thats in the mail will give me some boost. If its not going to, possibly don't reply and just let me find out the hard way... I'll be pretty devastated

hmmm.... now im suss... are you saying, in a not saying it kinda way, that the Fodera Pre probably isn't going to do what im hoping? at all?

Basically the electronics are like 34ish years old and I didn;t want to replace them internally. So I went an external pre instead

It still sounds great... It just needs some extra legs. I really want a clean colour free sound with a tad more oomph to get the signal through my effects
