Watching this thread not because I have one but I plan on getting a fretless neck from warmoth for this fender jazz 5

Not sure if you know, but Warmoth does not (nor do they have any plans to) make 4+1 configuration headstocks for Standard 20-fret J5. They told me that they can ship it sans tuner holes so the end-user can have 4+1 drilled if so desired. Otherwise you’ll have to get comfortable with in-line 5 like the MIM Deluxe.

Is that a Koa body with ebony fingerboard? What's the neck wood? Is the body capped or solid? Chambered?

Neck wood is bubinga with ebony fingerboard, body is solid alder with a koa cap, no chambering.

Have a look at this. Warmoth Wenge/Purpleheart neck, finishing in tung oil and an off-the-peg-from-ebay 'hog body with a quilted maple cap. Bloodwood 'plates. Standard VVT with PIO cap. Wilkie hardware. Excuse the goose posing for camera.

neck--5 peice wenge/bubinga w/lined Mac ebony board or the same with a fretted mac ebony board
body-- swamp ash
EMG- MMTW w/ toggle switch for coil tap and 35PX pickups
Hipshot brass bridge, string threw or top load, goto tuners
matching hand made wenge trus rod and control cavity covers
seymore Duncan steve bailey fretless 3 band preamp w/harmonic enhancer switch (push/pull volume knob)

My first fretless. Not my build, but beautiful nonehtheless. Tone to die for. Currently strung with Labella white copper tapes.

What was your experience going to 32" fretless? I'm considering making the switch from 34", but I enjoy playing in the upper registers and I'm afraid my intonation will suffer. I do find playing fretless in 'frets' 1-4 harder than a fretted, since you have to hit the note perfect.

That's a shame, I think 4+1 would balance better, maybe?

I think it’s negligible because for the in-line 5 you need the 3/8” post tuner, and 4+1 uses 1/2” posts. Slightly more mass and only 3-4” more towards the body...you still have 5 of them in the headstock altogether.

It's a flamed koa body with a cocobolo neck and ebony fingerboard. All bought discounted at their garage sale.
The PJ setup is pretty good for fretless as long as you favor the jazz pickup and roll off some bass.

Yep I found that out early. I don’t mind the 5 inline, the biggest bummer about hearing that was just more money, because now I also need a new set of tuners
