Powering Markbass Compressore

If I'm using my power supply to my compressor, how would I wire this "after" the compressor in the power supply cable? If I wire the diode in between the supply and the compressore, would that cause some noise issues?

You need to make a parallel connection to the plug for the MB comp... like this. No noise issues.

Isolation requires transformers or other more complex circuitry. But if all of your 9V pedals use the same polarity, then they are probably fine not having their grounds isolated. As far as the 9V and 12V, just think of ground as 0V for both of them. As long as they have the same exact zero reference, all's well.

The diode part numbers that I gave you are for 1/2 watt max dissipation. So for the 2.4V zener you can pull 200mA through it safely. For the 3V zener you can pull 150mA. If you need more current than that you would be better off using a separate supply so that you do not tax the MB supply too much.

Interesting.....so, from what I gather, it is a 600mA min vs 500mA?

The Markbass Compressore power requirement is +12 Vdc 600 mA minimum, so this power supply is underpowered.

The Compressore comes with its own power supply, better to use it.

I may buy a T-Rex Classic power supply with at 12V 500ma single output. Would this supply the Compressore with enough current without starving it?

After a mont or so of normal use, today i plugged in with the original power supply and i saw smoke coming from the inside of the unit!!.
Anyone knows if in ARGENTINA exists a official technical service of Markbass? in case not, anyone from Argentina knows a truthfully electronic repair center?

I've actually been trying to get my hands on 1N5241 but that comes up as a 11v 0.5W diode. Is this correct instead?:

You can use a voltage divider to reduce the 12V to 9V, but the resistances would need to be kept low enough that the divider will not starve the pedal of current.

A simpler one part solution would be to use a series zener diode to block about 3 volts from the 12V supply. The part that you will need is a 1N5225 zener diode that costs less than nickel. If you connect the diodes cathode (band side) to the +12V there will be approximately 9V at the anode (lead opposite the band side). Since fresh 9V batteries measure approximately 9.6V, you may want to use a lower voltage zener to get a tiny bit more headroom to your 9V pedal. A 2.4V zeners part number is 1N5241.

I must have been on a Nyquil buzz when I was typing that.:rollno: Yes, 5221 is the right number.... I need to remember to stay away from the keyboard when on cold meds.:D I'll go correct it in my original post.

I saw this thread and thought I add might add the following since I'm looking at buying a compressore. Any useful thoughts, comments etc appreciated.

Two possible ways to power up a compressore:

Using a daisy chain supply (eg Diago): 2 separate links connected to 2 Gigrig 9-12V isolator/convertors (each at 350mA), coupled to a T-Rex current doubler (doubles to 700mA) to pedal.

Using a T-Rex Chameleon Fuel Tank: 2 isolated, switchable outputs (set to 12V) at 300mA each coupled to a T-Rex current doubler (doubles to 600mA) to pedal.

Not sure if the current doubler is still manufactured by T-Rex since I couldn't see it on their website, but its still listed here at Thomann:

If the daisy chain set up worked I guess the possible advantages are it looks cheaper and is likely more flexible.

Advantages of the Chameleon set up are that other pedals are also isolated, you also get a 18V output and the switchable voltage function means you can drop 12V outputs back to 9V if the Compressore were removed from the effects chain.

Sound possible?

I have a DHA VT-1 EQ bass pedal that needs 12v and approx 1200ma of power....I had the same concerns about trying to power it on my board without having to use the power supply it came with (lots of cables on the board and a wallwart).....after many emails back and forth with DHA and others I came to the realization that 9v will power the pedal as well as 12v, it won't be as loud (just turn the volume up) and by using a One Spot which has 1700ma, I have all the power I need......I've been doing that for 1 month with no problems whatsoever.....

EDIT: The DHA is center neg so I had to get a red neg polarity connector also

Small correction...apparently the Gigrig 9-12V adapters put out 450mA each, so the current delivered to the Compressore in the daisy chain set up is 900mA.

Expensive though...each adapter is priced around £50 GBP.

Yeah I agree. I've got a fuel tank classic on it's way from eBay so we'll see how that turns out. I'll mount it underneath the pt mini and hopefully be done with it.

Agree that the daisy chain option presents extra bulk/hassle. Also, the biggest drawback is the cost of the adapters - at £50 each that's almost the cost of the T-Rex Chameleon.

However, the Chameleon option only involves one small, additional part - current doubler - which (if still available) costs around $5 euros. The other advantages are all pedals isolated and having a flexible 9/12/18V system which can be used for other pedals if the Compressore were removed.

Hopefully this will work well for the set up I'm putting together - Sadowsky outboard preamp (one 9V output), 3Leaf GR2 (one 18V output), Compressore run at 12V (2 outputs coupled via current doubler) and EBS Dynaverb (one 9V output).

At least that's the theory......

I loved the tone of the MB Compressore but couldn't get past the wall wart and the hugeness of it. It's a GREAT pedal compressor, but there others that are equally great sounding without that hastle.

Yes, the MB is center negative. Some circuit designs are more sensitive than others. I have no experience with anything DHA, but I do know that the MB Compressore would not work with a 9V power supply.
