Praise Report: GHS Precision Flats

Without having actually played them in anything even close to resembling a band/mix context of any kind, my initial impressions were that they are a very nice and well rounded string, sonically speaking. At this point I'm sort of hoping they don't lose too much of their high end clarity as they mellow out, but again, I'd have to play them in context to be able to say that for sure. I have a rehearsal this week and a gig on the weekend, so I'll be able to speak to this better by next week.

Physically I like the tension/stiffness so far, and I think the elasticity and right hand feel are about right for me. I'm using the 45-105 set.
The left hand felt comfortable as well.

No complaints over smoothness, but I've been playing rounds for the last 17 years.

You'll mellow out with them. Had you put them on 17 years ago they'd be just about perfectly played in, and you'd have saved $850+ in roundwound string purchases.

I traded for a Fender FSR Jazz Bass about 3 months ago and after some researching came to the conclusion that it came with GHS Precision Flats. I have no clue how long these have been on the bass but they sound and feel absolutely AWESOME!!! I wish I could tell what gauge they are so I would know what to go with If I were to ever have to replace them. They are not what I would call floppy but seem to have quite a bit less tension than the 45-100 Chromes that are on my PBass.

Ive had a set on my P bass for a little over a week now, the initial harsh high's and "new flat" sound is starting to going away. Here is my assessment so far:
Volume evenness: Really solid and even response across all the strings, better than most at this stage.
Tone evenness: Initially the E was huge, boomy and dark, while the other strings were "new flats" sounding. They are breaking in from the E down, E is getting tighter, A sounds identical to E now, D &G are just a touch brighter/twangier but are nearly there. I think a few more weeks ought to do it.
Overall tone: Its still a bit early, but they remind me a bit of the OLD Fender flats, but with more character and not as stiff. As they age the brittle "new flat" highs are softening, low mids are coming out and the bottom is tightening but still huge. You can get big round blossoming notes or that "digging in" P-bass grind. The tension is there, but they feel a bit more flexible and not as stiff as others.
Ill do an update again after they are fully broken in, but so far they are my new fav.

They foam mute and pick real good.

After some headphone practice earlier in the week and a full rehearsal with them last night, I have a few thoughts.

1) They sound great, if maybe a bit muddy at this stage. I'm glad to hear the low end may tighten up and some of the low mids may come out. Although "muddiness" to me may just be "not roundwounds". Understandably there's probably some amp tweaking to be done as well. I was having some trouble dialing in the low end on my Aguilar TH500 / Ampeg 210AV rig.
2) The tension/stiffness is a bit higher than I initially thought. Nothing I won't get used to, but I was definitely feeling it in the left hand after an hour or two.
3) Love the smooth feel. Not sticky at all. Very easy to run around the neck on.
3) I'm looking forward to seeing how these progress. Definitely not hating them yet, like I have with every other set of flats I've ever tried.

GHS Precision Flats have extreme clarity of attack with a sharply focused bottom end. Nothing muddy about this stringset at all. I think you are on the money as far as "not roundwounds" goes along with your EQ. Those ampeg 210s are famous for muddy lows (as are their 810's) and you may want to accquire a better sounding more accurate cabinet.

Yes, I think also the pickup I'm using (Curtis Novak PB-CC) has a bit of a boosted low end as well.
I guess I was also sitting beside my cab and not infront of it, so I'd have been missing a lot of the mids and highs anyway.

I'll have a gig report after Saturday, where I'll use 2 cabs stacked vertically and located behind me. Should be a much more accurate representation of what's going on.
