Praise Report: GHS Precision Flats

I have get the 3025 back a week ago .
Even the string become better settle in by my friends who use it everday on his pbass around a month, he also mention me the E sound dull and similiar result when we test his pbass through our band Mesa D800 rig.
I still love Ti on my pbass and my friend still licking LTF4A on his MIJ pbass.

I don't want restring the 3025 on my pbass for another try, but will string on a guy Squier CV 50p who bought the bass from me previously on this coming Sunday.
I make this decision just because I been put the M3050 on this CV50P in past and I found the D and G sound get better balance with E ( thuddyyyyyyy )and A on this single coil Ppup rather than split coil Ppup.

Will update soon.....

This is just another example of a particular set of strings working well on one bass but not on another. That's all.

The fact of the matter is the 3025 set is the best flats I've tried on my P bass to date, and unless they decide to go all wacky on me all of a sudden one day, I intend to keep them on for as long as I can.

So y'all, I put the .055-.105 set that I've had lying around on my P bass today and just wow. This is the sound I've been waiting for! I thought I hit gold with the Labella Jamersons, but these just knock everything out of the park! Incredibly smooth and punchy, vintage tone right off the bat. I can see what people are saying about the unbalanced tension, but these are great for me and solved my only issue with the medium set (that being the kinda weak G string IMO). I honestly believe that from now on, all my basses will be set up with GHS Precision Flats.

I just love these strings!

I should also mention that I haven't really picked up my P bass because I thought the tone was kinda sterile and lacking for a while. I also considered selling it for a bit because of that, but I'm glad I took a chance and replaced the LaBellas. They're great strings, but now I'm inspired to play my bass. It's a wonderful feeling!

I have my GHS flats on a horrible bass that I really don't like. I can't change them out because it's the only bass I have that takes short scale strings.

I still keep on picking it up and playing it because of the strings. My band mates, who I expected to be asking me to play rounds, liked em too. There's a certain amount of pathos to a flatwound playing punk rock that adds to the vibe.

Steve Harris plays brand new Rotos. I'm talking about broken-in Precision Flats that have a lot of low-end punch and a little click, and sound kinda stand-up bassish in my rig. Two different things. I have a set of Chromes and it's easy to make them sound straight ahead pun krock, but the GHS entail more of a commitment to a certain sound.

I love the Precision Flats for punk, but the sound makes it a different thing - not a lot of guitar-like cushion to the sound. Still great if you lock in with the drums. They sound amazing with fuzz though. Super synthy because they've got so much fundamental.

I follow. I took your "pathos" comment applied to flats in general.
Flats wouldn't be my first choice for punk, but they would certainly leave some more room in the mix for the guitars, and fill out the bottom. And I really like the sound of Precision Flats played with a pick.

Interesting comment about the fuzz. I'll have to give that a try.

I have GHS on one bass and Chromes on another. The Chromes you have to listen to to tell that they're flats. The GHS are flats all the way. Much clickier and darker. I like the Precision Flats played with a pick as well. If I was just a little more precise on the 8th and 16th notes, I'd like them even more.

Looking for some advice - I’m looking for a traditional-sounding flat (eg La Bella), particularly as regards to the quick decay that I associate with traditional flats, but with stronger midrange than La Bellas. I love the sound of my 5-year-old TIs for this but am looking for strings for another bass and don’t have 5 years for it to sound like that!

Would GHS P flats be what I’m looking for?

If by "stronger midrange" you mean "punchy presence in the mix", then the P Flats would do it for you as most of the bass meat is in their low-mids. I've tried the La Bella 760FL (43-104) in the past and now the P Flats Lights (45-95) and find the P Flats tend to have a better presence in the mix.

If you want something with a little more mid-mids to be heard, then you can try the Fender 9050L (45-100).

You can probably try both of them for less than what you would pay for a set of TI's. ;)

yeah try the light set i've found they are the set that sounds like TI but a more classic flat (less treble, more bass). i touted them as the TI alternative on many threads (only the light set, the bigger ones are a little bigger in sound and more dead sounding).

Update on half broken in 3025.

Strung the 3025 to Squier CV50P( single coil ) on past Sunday and the string return to me on Tuesday.
Been experience M3050 on same bass previously, the 3025 A string is notible clearer and nice even sound with D and G on this single coil pickup.
I know single coil p pup is different than split coil p pup, but the G sound fuller on single coil pup.
The A ,D and G sound is tasty and nail the classic voice.
Still the E stting sound dull to me and the stronger output E string is more visible on this flatpole single coil pup.
Although I adjust the pickup height to get balance output with others, now become the A string less output. The only way to solve this problem is raise the E saddle then become uncomfortable and unbalance string action.
Maybe this problem could solve with raise A D magnet pole piece single coil p pup.

Load back the LTF4A on CV 50P and my friend found his old friends back.

I still keep this half-settle-in PF 3025, maybe will give it another try if I have another pbass on another day and will do an another opinion share right here.

Thanks for reading my personal opinion, even 3025 not make me happy, but I won't blame it, complaint it and hate it .
