Praise Report: GHS Precision Flats

I played this bass yesterday with the very same stringset I put on 6 going on 7 years ago.
KILLER!
Need I say more? I think not.
Groove, Baby, Groove
I have seen the light of ghs precision flat-wound strings I have been baptized and I'm not going back to any other flats!

The .095 E String feels thicker than a Dunlop Flats .0100 E String. I wouldn't worry about it too much. It sounds good and deep.
Okay thanks for all of the responses guys! I could see that being true because the PF .105 E string feels a lot thicker than any other .105 E string I've played whether flats or rounds so perhaps the .095 E will be a great fit for my medium scale vintage modified Squier tele Bass!

I felt the same way too and that’s coming from my 3 years of playing EB Cobalt Flats!!

After playing the precision flats and went to my EB’s, the EB didn’t feel or sound quite as good as the GHS’s.

I wonder: Should i shorten strings like GHS PF on a standard Pbass (without string-trough-body) or is it better to keep a few windings more on the tuner?
Yes. You want three winds on the shaft. Do not cut the G string! It is skinny enough not to matter. Start from the top of the shaft and wind down. Keep downward pressure on the nut. With the E string you will have about a quarter wind of unsilked string on the post. Not to worry. It's just fine.

I only trim the E string. Never had any trouble leaving G, D, and A strings untrimmed.

I picked up a set of these yesterday (3025 set) in light gauge (45 - 95). They were the only GHS they had.

Curious about the 38” wind as stated on the package. What does this mean exactly?

They will be going on a Fender Jazz.

Are these the right length for my bass and do I need to do anything to them before putting them on (like trim them)?

Thanks.

Winding length = length of the string from ball end to where the silk starts.

38" is actually a bit too long for the E string on a typical Fender-style headstock.

Here's how they are on my Fender Am Std P bass, top-loaded. This is something that used to aggravate my OCD, but otherwise no issue with part of the main body of the E string wrapping around the post.

Ya, this will definitely get my OCD going as well.

As long as it doesn't cause the string to break, I'm good with it though.

Saturday is Precision Flats Day. Out comes my trusty Fender Precision for it's day in the weekly rotation. It's good for the soul.
Yes, it is! Thinking about swapping strings out today on a couple of my basses; GHS PWs coming off my Squier CV P and going on my Fender 60s J... the P will be getting the GHS P Flats that are on the J. Little nervous about whether (or not) I might run into problems, though.

Enjoy your P bass today. Wonderful instrument!

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you're good at setups & truss rod adjustment for proper neck relief. I like 14 thousandths of an inch from the top of 8th fret to the belly of the E string when the string is depressed at the first and last fret. 7/64ths of an inch string height at the top of 15th fret to the belly of the undepressed string. 3/32nds on the G. Intonate and your good to go for many years. I'm pretty sure your Squier is bridge through stringing only. I hope you didn't string through the body on your jazz as the hard breakover angle will put kink in the strings at the bridge saddle that may put the kibosh on the whole operation.

I’m a long time fan of P Flats but have drifted toward other flats on a couple of my Basses.... Recently I couldn’t find the right set of strings for a Musicmaster neck / faux Mustang body build I put together. I can run short scale strings on this bass, and I had a set of P Flats (45-95) from an abandoned short scale project a few years back- I slapped them on and they’re perfect.

Just the right blend of focused, slightly “dry” fundamental and harmonic content. No flub, no treble hype, GREAT low mids. These are the right strings for this bass!

I think @Kipp Harrington is talking about the MIM Classic 60's Jazz, which doesn't have the thru-body option.
You are correct, Michael. MIM and top load.
I got a close look at the wrap on my E string around the post. Looks like there are a couple small gaps in the string. Do you think I should still mess with trying to take this off and re-string it on my P bass?
