Just recently I attended a BBQ (band members only, no spouses, friends, etc) The idea was to get together in a non studio environment and relax, drink a little, eat a little and try to figure out our next step as a band. We have been struggling as of later - really struggling-with the direction our band needs to go (the ratio of covers to originals being one of the biggest hurdles)
After a short "cocktail hour" we sat and had our meal. Conversations were mostly about the weather, politics, TV shows, sports, etc...nothing relating to the band...yet.
When dinner ended we all grabbed whatever we were drinking (me, ice water and lemon) and sat around a large fire pit (with no fire lit) to get down to the business at hand.
There was a rather lengthy pregnant pause once the chattiness of moving to the backyard from the dinner table subsided.
As we all sat avoiding eye contact I finally started:
"Do you remember that scene from the God Father, the one in the Itailain restaurant, where Michael Corleone comes out of the restroom and is suppose to start blasting away but instead sits back down?"
*nervous laughter from the band*
I continued,
"He just sits there looking at the two people he is suppose to have killed by now....a train goes by outside the door, it's as if it is going right through his head, getting louder and louder".
*Yeah,oh that was intense, blah, blah, blah from the band.*
"Well, that's how I feel right now. There's a freaking train in my head and it's getting louder. I should have come into this party "blasting" but instead I sat down"
My next words were, "I'm out."
And with that, I got up and left, flat out quit right then and there.
No joke, no prank. I just quit. I had had enough bull**** and walked out. (grabbed my PA and went home )
yeah, I know that's not what the thread is about but I thought it would make a good entry here anyway.
