I have a 62 J and P.....the J is the love of my life, and she is stored in a gun safe at home.

Here she is, refinned in 2010 after period incorrect refin done in 08 (not by me):

Here's what she looked like before:

That is the best looking Pre CBS Fender on talkbass or anywhere else I have seen, that color!

Yep, leave it to Mr. Kallas to have the best "relic" vintage Fender I have ever laid eyes on. Thats the 'mojo' a fine instrument ought to have IMO.

Just 'cuz 'Jaco' dragged his bass down the street without a case doesn't mean that 'beat up' equals cool.

BTW, Fine basses all...even the ones who have led a harder life. I would be honored to own any of them. Even makes me wish (again) I had my lowly '72 P back.

1962 Precision (slab neck dates 3-62 handwritten) previously refinished on body and neck. Jazz pickup was there when I got it 2 years ago. The bass I will truly never, ever sell. Honestly, I wouldn't trade it for a pristine 1962 P, I like it that much. I now have the original bridge back on it (owner included it with the sale) and I have a set of matching 60's knobs on there now. Otherwise, all original. The neck has some great flame too.

I'm so beyond glad I did this thread, this thing just gets cooler by the minute.

What were you guys thinking not showing these things off?
It seems TalkBass has an awesome collection of old basses out there.

I still cant get over John K's Sea Foam Green
That things gonna give me trouble sleeping tonight, and I'm not even a big fan of the P Basses looks. (insert hiding icon here) sorry, for whatever reason my stupid IPhone wont allow me to use Icons.

I gotta say though even though I'm more into the Jazzes these old P's with there age and "mojo" it kinda puts a new spin in them and they're really growing on me.
Like the previous post of the sunburst P & J's together.
Those are both gorgeous and look awesome together.

Here's my dad's P bass:

My grandpa bought it used in the early 60's. Since everyone in his band has red guitars, he immediately refinished the bass red. He later gave the bass to my dad, who had it professionally refinished black. He found that my grandpa had sanded the bass bare and didn't use any filler or primer. The guitar tech tried all he could, but the wood now has a permanent pink tint. My dad's plan was to bring it back to the original two tone burst, but because of the tinted wood, he settled for black. The bridge cover was lost after the second refinish and only recently been replaced with a new one.
My dad and grandpa believe the bass to be from 1953. They won't let me take the neck off to check, but I definitely will the day it gets handed down to me.
