Precision neck ... Suggestions

I like the vintage look of the SX necks from Rondo Music. Mine is fretless. I also wanted a maple fretboard. One thing to pay attention to is the neck pocket fit.

I just bought a Fender MIM P neck and am happy with it. My tech did dress the fret ends, but otherwise it was very good.

I have a Warmoth roasted maple Jazz neck that is outstanding, but I'm not a huge fan of the heel truss rod placement.

I had a bad experience with a Mighty Mite once - worn spots in the finish and tear out on the tuner holes. I will probably give them a second chance on a future project, though.

I have several Jazz Basses with Warmoth Necks. I like them alot. i have owned a USA Custom Guitars neck and it was also excellent. I own an allparts neck and it is high quality. I don't like the Allparts as much because it is a thicker than standard profile. I don't know if all their necks are like this but it is worth looking into. You may or may not like the added thickness. If I were buying a neck tomorrow it would be Warmoth.

LOVE the nuke switch! and any man with a Spector Spectorcore gets a double thumbs up from me!

Thanks! That Spectorcore was an awesome bass but I ended up selling it to fund other projects. The Spector had Siamese twin preamps (dual Audere preamps - one for each pickup - conjoined at the concentric pots and the jack).

I know the Q is for the OP, but I have done that as a way to spread the cost and the fun over a long period of time. This one took nearly 5 years to go from Vintage Modified Squier to the version pictured below. The neck is Allparts by the way but I mostly use Warmoth parts now.

There was no reason to replace the body. The original neck had the truss rod pop through the fingerboard, so it needed to be changed (I use really high tension strings).

i think my minivan has less button and switch :P

Really nice bass !

Please pardon my ignorance on these matters but why are you pouring a fortune into a beginner budget bass. Would a stock American Fender be better, or better resale value?
Well .... I didn't like the MIA fenders , the didn't sound the way I expected them to ...
It's a nice personal project , kind of making it my own bass ....
It's much cheaper , by now I have spent 470$ , even with a brand new Warmoth neck , it's still cheaper than a MIA fender

IMO Mighty Mite is as good as any except for Warmoth and USACG. I thin they're better than Fender, WAY better than Squier. The reason I think is that Warmoth and USACG are much better is that they have stabilizing rods inside the neck. Those are nice, eliminate dead spots but add weight - sometimes as much as a pound. If you're not looking for top of the line, then Warmoth et al might not be for you.

I use something called TruOil for neck finishes. It was developed for gunstocks, and is basically a wipe-on enamel/lacquer. It seals the neck. Look it up here. It's beautiful, durable, and feels almost like wood.

Yeah, the last MM neck I played was pretty chunky. I am not a fan, I prefer slim.

That is the "flatness" of the fingerboard. The higher the radius number, the flatter the fingerboard. Old Fenders used a very round 7.5" radius. Modern Fenders use a 9.5" radius. I can't tell the diff between 9.5" and 10" that Warmoth et al use . I believe Squiers are in the 10" range. As I recall, MM uses a 12" radius, which is a good modern compromise. My preference is for a 16" board - very flat. If you want to convert, just convert inches to mm - 10" radius = 254mm radius.

actually that said slab. as opposed to the neck being made from a single solid piece of wood. A slab fretboard is the only way to get a neck with a fingerboard that is a different material than the neck body/shaft.

what it says, the edges of the neck are more rounded or less rounded. More rounded is probably more comfortable.

C'mon, you can do a conversion... google is your firend.
but fyi: standard P bass necks are a little wider at the nut, usually 1.625", than Jazz necks, which are 1.5" wide at the nut. it's only 1/8". but you can really feel it. MM necks tend to be more P-bass like than Jazz bass like.
Thanks ...

Well , I did use google ... Did check things out just before ordering the hipshot tuners to fit the neck holes .... Ended up drilling anyway ... So I'm either stupid or something went wrong somewhere LOL

When I was building my last Frankenfender, I looked at all the options mentioned here. Allparts and Mighty Mite ended up being way more expensive than I expected, so it came down to two choices for new: the expensive option, a 'Screamin' Deal' neck from Warmoth; or the cheap option, a MIM rosewood Fender neck for about half the price.

Ultimately, I chose a third path, which is getting a decent deal on a lightly used blocked and bound maple Fender neck in the TB classifieds. Necks are easy to ship, and it's a great way to get more for your dollar...

I got myself a Squier Affinity PJ as a project ...
I replaced everything but the body and neck ... Got EMG GZR PJ pickups , Gotoh bridge , Hipshot tuners and even the strap thing was replaced by Schaler clip ...

I'm pretty happy with the results , and I'm ready for the next level ... The neck !!! I want a nice All maple neck.

It seems that there are several options like Warmoth, Allparts, WD, Mighty might & Fender (there might be more I don't know of )

I want a quality neck, want it to improve the playbility of the bass and sound (if it makes any sense )

From what I've seen Warmoth is the most expensive , but expensive is not always the proof of quality ...

What would you guys recommend ? Can you share your experience with these necks ?

I just got a Warmoth bubbinga quarter sawn J-neck for my squier body - it rocks.
