Got to work on a photo shoot with Prince right after Purple Rain came out and HE was the photographer (itwas to promote the Family with Morris Day). The one thing I can say is he really knew how to get what he wanted and I learned a lot just watching him go about getting it.
Chem trails? I would have thought it have something to do with him not allowing his music all over the internet. But what do I know . . . ?
Damn shame. Best talent in a long time. And with tons of style too. Can't beat that.
A couple years ago I had a close call, with a bad case of pneumonia. Didn't realize it was serious (as in, "It's just a cough, I'll tough it out") and eventually wound up in the ER. Took months before my lungs felt normal again.
A colleague at work told me she'd lost her husband that way, years back. He was a theater tech, and thought the pain he started feeling in his chest was just from banging his rib doing some rigging. Disregarded it, when it persisted. He went to bed one night, and didn't wake up.
This is just me reminiscing...I have no idea if this was what caused Prince's death. But I take this kind of ailment seriously, now.
If opiates were involved, I suspect it was in response to never getting the double hip replacement he needed. I learned this week that I am eventually facing double knee replacement. The pain and loss of mobility is no joke. For a man who was as athletic as Prince, this must have been a hard pill to swallow. Getting old is no joke!
The hardest thing to accept is that as you get older, you cannot fight off illness and injury the way you used too. It is dangerous to overlook lingering illness or injuries.

I used to think the same about "Flashlight". Is it bass, synth, both.....WTH is going on? To me, certain subtleties in the playing pointed to a bass being there, if buried under synth, still there.
Then I read an interview with the man who played it.
All synth.
I had it in 2009. The worst I had ever felt in my life. When I was on the mend, six weeks later, I asked the doc why I still felt like crap. Doc said to expect to feel that way for at least another month or so. When I expressed my surprise, he simply said "look, people die from this".

I work in a hospital. We see Pneumonia take out people from 3 to 103 years-old, and in between.
We lost a 31 year old last week.
Wash your hands and keep them out of your face.
Hint: if you go to GC or any of the other outlets to mislead sales people, please be especially careful.
Think about it, everyone plays those guitars and face it, many musicians have crappy health and health care coverage.

Saying Prince played bass is like saying Nolan Ryan knew how to toss a ball, he played the "H-E-double hockey sticks" out of the bass and always hired players as good or better than him.
That's great advice about music stores, and one more reason just to play my Lakland and Peaveys.
And the Bieb does it again...proving one more time that he is merely music's version of Johnny Football.
I have never seen this before: Prince on piano, playing a standard with the band for a sound check.

. I think you have that backwards.I don't think that Prince composed on anywhere near Stevie's level. Prince was a pretty good bassist... but compared to Stevie's left hand? Nope. I can't think of anything he did that would kick bassists' butts like Boogie On Reggae Woman. The feel on display in that one song is ridiculous and so far only one guy could've come up with that. His work with technology is legendary. As a performing musician, no he wasn't as visual as Prince for obvious reasons. But the music and the vocals?
Stevie wrote songs that have become Standards.
Many people may not know or have forgotten... Stevie on harmonica. Toot's was the only other person I've heard play on that incredible level. See "Alfie".
This is not anywhere near being a slight of Prince, Stevie is just on another level from most musicians, period. Give me something that compares to Talking Book, The Secret Life of Plants, Innervisions... actually Songs in the Key of Life would probably suffice on its own.
I've been a big fan of Prince from the beginning when he was on the horse. A definite game changer but when I look at the people he influenced, not to mention the people who benefited from him being the one who played on their recordings (
it doesn't cover as much ground as the people who've been influenced by Stevie. Not even close. He truly is a wonder.I'd put Prince almost on par with Michael Jackson... and Stevie above them both.
