progressive rock recordings / bands

Check out the Talkbass Progressive Rock Bassists club for more info, but I play Genesis, Yes, Porcupine strew, UK, Rush, Dream Theater, ELP, Liquid Tension Experiment, Vai, Zappa (Zappa is so eclectic that some of his stuff is definitely proggish although he certainly was not), Frost*, etc. plenty on my channel(link in signature below).

Lots of great stuff to play and listen to, from King Crimson to Riverside - there’s some of bass guitar’s best moments to be had in prog.

Hakken for excellent super talented metal with a Gentle Giant influence.

EVERYTHING Steve Wilson related: Porcupine Tree (start with Stupid Dream), his solo albums, and his side project Blackfield. Steven Wilson took everything good from the past, updated it, and made new and interesting stuff. His material is varied from delicate tear-provoking beautiful landscapes to full out metal. He dislike the prog label and when you listen you'll understand why - its all so varied but all so good. He writes, pretty darn good guitar player, good singer, engineers, and produces. And surrounds himself with the best players. He personally remixes all the greatest prog albums from the 70s in 5.1. He is today's 1970s musical genius.

I thought that was the only way to like them?
:::ducks:::

:thumbsup:

Doesn’t Rick Wakeman play on those albums? I have a vague recollection of the drummer in my high school band trying to get me into Strawbs just because of their connection with Yes. I also have a less vague recollection of that connection not being strong enough to engage my interest.
This is THE Wakeman Strawbs album...

Once again, can’t anyone be bothered to read through entire threads? I see bands referenced over and over, and it also means that there’s a lot of info skipped over. Why should anyone contribute if no one gains any knowledge by reading through? Tony in Philly gets a pass, ‘cause I know he read my first post, and I was remiss in posting videos. Now, there are related genres, like “Space Rock”, which of course means Hawkwind, and, to the extreme, this bunch...

...and then the entire “Kraut Rock” rabbit hole(and I’m not talking about Triumvirate, but more Neu!, Can, La Dusseldorf)but you’re not likely to hear a lot of meandering chord progressions or Rococo instrumental passages there. This band was a favorite of mine...
I
I already mentioned Steve Hillage, but overlooked an earlier band of his...

and the keyboardist’s previous outfit...

He went on to the Hatfields, National Health, and the Bill Bruford band.
