Round these parts, there are many families with that surname... and they all accent the final syllable:

ah-gee-LAHR (with a nice spanish accent, of course...)

The typical "americanization" of the pronounciation however, does usually place the accent on the first syllable.

Now...

...when it comes to the famous German microphones, why is it pronounced "NOY-mann" instead of "NEW-man" (or even "NEOO-man")?

The "eu" in German makes an "oi" sound. The word "neu" also means "new."

For instance, there's a street here, Guadalupe, that is pronounced Gwah-duh-loop, not the "correct" Hwa-duh-loop-ay.

Also, I'm sort of in between an "AG-YU-LAR" and an "AG-YIH-LAR" personally. Depending on how quickly I say it. Last time I called in Dave B. answered the phone. I'm pretty sure he said "AG-YOU-LAR" and he treated me like royalty.

Yeah, that's the Mexican way [accent]. Is Aguilar a Mexican-American company? If so, that's the way to say it.

I missed afroman's point that the accent is on the last "a".

My point was that the strong and nasal "GEE" is Mexican sounding.

Just like English, Spanish has many different flavors depending on who is speaking it.

OK, pronounce "Moog".

And you'll be suprised how many don't know how to pronounce "Hartke".

Ah yes - Moog. It's pronounced "mogue" (like "rogue") but, of course, everyone mispronounces it "moo-gue" - like a cow might.

"Hardtke" - well, thankfully I've never had to pronounce that one...
