Yes, absolutely no arguments from me. For whatever reason, the industry seems stuck in a P and J rut, so they are the tools we all have to have.
I am mediocre bassist and a value buyer, so my only addition to the above is that IMO you can get better value from Fender clones. They're still just tools that do the same job. Here in Australia a custom built Sandberg is not much more expensive than an MIA Fender and much much better. Otherwise, I'll stick to MIM Fenders thanks very much.
Sandberg, Lull, Sadowsky, Lakland etc are not stupid. They simply couldn't get away with "copying" Fender and not adding value. They do.
BTW... I'd love a G&L ASAT. Those things are sexy.
