If you have to hide a $100 purchase from your s/o, then your relationship is most likely suffering elsewhere. Maybe that's not your case, but it usually seems to be.

i am totally honest with my wonderful wife. she is very cool about it; i couldn`t see doing it any other way.

My wife thinks it's "cute" that every week something else shows up on the porch. It's usually something relatively inexpensive or gained from a trade and seldom anything I "need". I have my main basses and rig that I intend to keep,and the rest are just trade-bait for when I want a different toy to play with..

As for outright purchases,the way she puts it is.."my basses pay for my other basses" One time I decided to see how far I could push my luck and ordered $1700 worth of parts for a Dream Build while she was at work. All she said was "Wow,that's gorgeous!" I said 'You're not mad?' "Why would I be? That'll pay for itself before summer's over"...I love that crazy woman! :D

My wife is fairly oblivious, but I tell her what I buy. I remember buying a Line 6 Bass Pod XT Love from eBay a couple of years ago. Showed it to her when it showed up. Probably a year later I'm programming the thing one night and she says "When did you get that? ". She knows the basses, but the peripherals ...fairly clueless.

My ex-wife never understood gear purchases. If I bought a $200 cymbal, she bought a $400 purse...

Happily, that is all behind me. My sweetie has no issues with me buying gear, figuring out where to put it is another story. With 8 full drumsets, 32 snares, over 80 cymbals, a large hand percussion rig, two basses, two bass amps, 4 guitars, 3 guitar amps, two full PA systems and lighting, she might have a point.

I have 31 basses, my son has 11 guitars, amps, f/x, mics, stands, cables, and...you get the picture. My wife asked me once why I had so many basses. I turned and looked at her and said, "because God said I could only have one of you." She smiled at me, kissed me, and said she loved me...I'm the luckiest bastard on the planet! As long as the funds don't come from the bill pot, she's cool. She knows I'll be earning at least some cash with it. It's not like I spent $500 on golf clubs or something....

My wife is a very thrifty person. She doesnt like spending money, not even on herself. However, when I want some new gear I always tell her about it. I tell her beforehand whenever Im thinking of buying anything, really. If its something I have to think about buying, than most likely it costs upwards of $20.
Only when I wanted to get a PS3 did she say that there are some other expenses we should take care of first, and though I still want one, I knew she was right. However, when I have the money to afford one I'll get it, and I'll let her know Im getting it. Ive never had to hide gear purchases, in fact my last few aside from my fretless 5 string have beeen paid for by her, as gifts.

My wife and I had a disagreement this last fall about me getting a new tube head. Her "you don't need it your not even gigging" Me "It's 30% off a brand new all tube head" needless to say this caused an argument to which i told her "I am gonna buy it anyway". Bought the amp stored it in the garage for a week and took it to the rehearsal space. A couple of weeks later it came up in conversation and i told her how awesome it was. Her "thats nice your hiding things from me now" Me "Nope. I told you i was gonna buy it, I just didn't want to throw it in your face" She hasn't said anything about it since.:bassist:

My wife is out of town taking care of her sick mother. I ran across a good deal on a bass and bought it. She phoned me and asked what I was doing. I replied that I was setting up a bass. She wanted to know which one, so I told her it was the one I just got. She wanted pictures and can't wait to hear it. I'm blessed.
